1/32 Roden Fokker DVI

All,
Not perfect by any means, but was built to the very best of my (limited!) abilities.............
Anyway, this is Roden's 32nd scale Fok DVI kit. Not a bad model overall, but the usual Roden fiddly build in certain places. Two main areas to watch here are the fit of the engine within the cowling (tight) and the lower wing join. Both engine and cowling need a bit of filing down to ensure the engine turns (which it now does) freely. Lower wing if not trimmed back results in a distinct (anhedral) droop. Top wing installation was a doddle to get on though. Decals are better than others used before but is time consuming as they have to be individually cut and fitted in place. They did settle down nicely and responded really well to decal setting/softening solutions. Strangely though, fitting the individually cut rib tapes to the upper (darker) surface was a battle as they broke up as soon as hit the water. I ended up assembling them like a jig saw puzzle - very tedious and time consuming. The lower (lighter) ones gave no problem and went on well though.
I undertook some very basic detailing to engine, MG's (my thanks to Dal Gavan for supplying me the PE jackets) and cockpit.
One thing I did overdo was toning down the lozenge (which I thought a bit too bright) decals - makes it appear a little too dull now. Oh well, I'll try better next time!
Apologies for the quality of photographs - my camera has decided to give up the ghost. I therefore used my wife's phone camera.
Regards
Dave

Actually, your "dulling-down" of the decals is perfect.
As I look at my sheet in the kit, they are much too bright, and have a slightly "over-blueish" look to them.
What did you use to achieve your effect?

Closer to perfect than I could've gotten her, Dave! And all with a brush? I'm blown away, mate. You can be very proud of this one. She's stunning.
Cheers,
Bud

Hello Dave:
Outstanding job! I think this is really a neat airplane, have it in the stash, I have to take the plunge and do it. You did an outstanding job on it and it looks great.
Best

Dave,
One of the nicest DVI builds I have seen! I really don't think you toned down the lozenge too much. To me it looks perfect! JMHO,

Gentleman,
Many thanks for all your comments - I really appreciate (self confidence is not my strong point!) the positive feedback.
Aroth - I toned down the lozenge decals using gloss brown mixed in with some clear matt and paint over the decals. This also has the benefit of 'sealing in' the decals as well- you just need to experiment with the right mix/ratio. I would suggest (based on my experience doing this this) that you start with a 'weak' ratio of brown to clear and work up in different coats until you are happy with how it appears.
Regards
Dave
