Phonix D-1, 1/72 Pegasus
« on: May 06, 2026, 06:22:47 AM »
Finally completed this Pegasus Phonix D-1.  Finished as Johan Maltz' aircraft using a combination of MAC decals and others from the spares box.  Like all Pegasus kits it was a bit tricky to put together.  All the struts including the cabanes are made from sprue to try to get them thin enough (the white metal ones in the kit are too thick and bend easily!).  Fortunately I dropped it just as I'd finished it, which gave me the opportunity to rectify the formerly slightly droopy wings!  Dropping Pegasus kits just as they are finished seems to be a bit of a pattern with me. Finally rebuilt and re-rigged with stretched sprue.

Good looking model Will  8)

I've got a part started MAC version hiding on the shelf somewhere. Seeing your finished build reminds me what a great looking aircraft they are; I really must dig it out again.

Not sure if it's just me getting older or if I'm just clumsy, but I know exactly what you mean about dropping them; there are days when I seem incapable of holding anything and spend half the modelling session picking things up off the floor ::)

Great results from a crude material. I reckon that Mac kit would build easier. Yet, yours is very fine. Congrats.

Oh that is so nice! Great work on the camouflage and engine exhaust pipes. This kit is on my short list for future projects.

Very nice work Will, I'm glad you recovered it after the accident. The camo finish looks excellent, a really good representation of the A-H scheme. And it's nice to see someone rigging with stretched sprue, I always used to do that when I built 1/72 kits. It looks great!

Thanks for the nice comments!  Always appreciated from you guys on this forum.  The camo was done by painting a varnished wood effect or the linen first and then brush painted by dabbing good old humbrol Matt brown over the top.

You did very well with that kit. I especially appreciate the realistic camouflage finish here

Nice job on a difficult model.  I built the MAC version a few years ago.  I Like the camouflage.

Very nice! That's some impressive stretched sprue rigging too!

A super model from a poor kit. The camouflage and rigging are very good - I too used to use stretched sprue but mine was not as good as yours.
