The Beast !
« on: April 07, 2026, 10:05:41 AM »
This build started four months ago using the Pro Modeler kit , a re-boxing of the Accurate Miniatures kit with a bunch of goods added to it with a fare bit of scratching tossed in . Sets used ... Eduards cockpit set , bomb bay , wheel well ( only a few parts got used ) Flaps and exterior set . Aeries wheel well , wolfpack wing fold , Quick boost engine and various parts form the KMC resin set .
The cockpit is Eduards PE and KMC resin parts with a few scratched details which where missing , the seat is form Ultracast . Oxygen hose is rubber but can't recall the brand name ....oh well ! Form behind the polits seat the frame , fuel tank , oil , cooling line is all scratched built . the radio is a mixture of resin kit and scratched items , even included the head set ( head phones ) and telegraph thinging and all the wiring behind the radio . The lift raft is role taped paint yellow and weathered . A few corrections where made to guns add a bit more details added . I left the turtle deck in the rasied position but I did add detail to this area . Wheel wells got more detail added to them , hydraulic lines etc etc and missing structure parts for the landing gear which also got detailed with missing details . The wing fold , this is one heavy set and adds a lot of weight to the model . The wing slats are molded in place . This is incorrect . This was fixed to the landing gear , gear down slats extended . So I had to scrap this area away for the kit slats to fit in the space . The flaps need to painted before the bending starts or you will not be able to paint the inners .

Oh my, that is well done! I do like the extra details. Your paint work is looking great, too!

Loving seeing your builds Alexis! Keep 'em coming!

Looks great Alexis. All those little details make you want to look closer and closer - lovely

As an aside I remember being mighty impressed by the the US carrier aircraft at Yeovilton museum when I were but a nipper. Compared to the European and earlier aircraft they were HUGE. There was an air of brutality about them that left a lasting impression (particularly the Corsair with it's enormous fan up front) which I've always had a soft spot for  ;)

Wow, that's a lot of work but definitely worth it. A really impressive and beautifully detailed model. Your overall finishing exudes quality.

Lovely work Alexis! I've not seen many SB2Cs lately and this has to be one of the finest examples I've seen.

As an aside I remember being mighty impressed by the the US carrier aircraft at Yeovilton museum when I were but a nipper. Compared to the European and earlier aircraft they were HUGE.
Over the weekend I went to an airshow with my partner and her folks and an Avenger was one of the star acts. Emily was amazed at just how big it is, even having seen an example or two in a museum before and a few YouTube videos. She previously confused the type with the T-6/Harvard...no more!  ;D It made a big impression on her - I expect a Helldiver would too!

Thank you gents ! It was a fun build and a few details had to remake such as the fuel tank , 3 try's !!!!

Brad , before I would use white added to do faded paint but it never seem to like right . So I starting using buff which is how I did the fading on this build . There is three different layers for the first round . then fading with tamiya weather set for us navy with another filter of the blue with buff mixed in with the last coat blue with purple added followed by more pastel chalks

Zac , no you don't see many of the Helldiver being build and it has never been retooled . Would be nice to see a new tooled kit of this type There are quit the few in 72 scale ..perhaps give one a go  ;)

Your "Beast" is amazing Alexis! The added details look fantastic. The layering of the paint really tops off a beautiful build!

Well done indeed Alexis. Such a lot of work and your result is quite impressive. We're lucky to have such long cold winters here where a modeller can really stick with a project, eh?  :)
Cheers,
Gary

Great result, congratulations. It is 48th scale, isn't it?

That is a mini-masterpiece Alexis - just superb in every way, and as Paul has commented, there is more to see each time I take another look!

Thank you very very much guys for the positive feed on this build .  :)

Gary , yes those cold winter months here are perfect for such projects where one can sink their teeth into build and add a few details here and there .

Prze , it is 48 scale
