I have Lost My Wife
« on: January 10, 2026, 08:41:23 AM »
In the wee, small dark hours before dawn on January 3rd, the light of my life was extinguished. The forty plus years I spent with her were a blessing I surely never deserved. She inspired me and drove me, and now I have to break trail on my own from here on out. I'm sure there's a trail there, but it's so overgrown with weeds, I can't see it,. It was stomach cancer, and by the time it was detected, it was far too late. (Her MS symptoms masked it.)

I sit here now like a bitter-nut hickory shading the porch of a house that's been torn down.

"But the good Lord knows the truth
Just like a old hickory
Shadin' the porch of a house that's been torn down
There ain't nothin' that's left but the memory
And that long, tall, scraggily, bitter nut old hickory"

I'm sure that one day, I'll return to the bench. This is the major reason my Nieuport builds stalled out, this last year has just been terrible, and this capped it off.

Oh my Warren, I am so, so sorry to hear. Words can't express how deeply the loss of a lifetime partner is; no doubt your world feels like it's upside down right now.

Take some time to celebrate her life and her impacts, and also make sure you're taking time for you to work through things. The bench will be there for you when you're ready.

I am hoping you have some family and friends around to support you - we're all here for you if you need anything or anyone to talk things over with.

Thinking of you my friend,

Oh my Warren, I am so saddened by your news. It's not easy to work through a loss such as this but trust me, time does eventually  heal and I speak from experience. Take comfort and faith in the great years you had; my loss was at the tender age of 42 with three son's left to raise on my own and dwelling on the good memories and believing in the good things still possible got me through it.
You have a lot of friends here and respect; reach out here as you need and in your circle at home and with family as well. Take your time, and don't hesitate to reach out if you feel it could help.

Oh Lance, that is terrible! I am counting my blessings, thank you and thanks to the others for being here for me.

Dreadful news, Warren, the very worst.
No words can help but over time, you'll find you can still speak to those lost.
They can't reply, but they are still there.

I'm so sorry for your loss as well Warren. I experienced the same thing 20+ years ago. As Lance said, time does indeed help.

Dear Warren, I am so sad in reading these news, I know no words can help, but try to imagine how empathethic I am with you: My dear wife passed away in 2021 and I still can't believe this happened.  To my experience the best way now is to leave your grief flow, make it part of your life and it will slowly fade, probably never disappearing. I send you a big hug.

I just saw that you made this post Warren. As you know you have My thoughts and Prayers, Not to Mention My support and complete understanding. Try to remember the Good Times and Stay Busy. It doesn't really take away the Pain, but it helps!

Thank you Rick and Steve. I went to my first grief counseling session today. Lucky for me, first one on the list was our old marriage counselor from 25+ years ago. A wonderful lady, and we had a great session.
I ordered her headstone today, and I return to work tomorrow in order to get back to a sane routine.
