Zac asked if I would actually do a build log of the IBG D-9 kit so I figured I would oblige

In RAGIII style I will do a Dual Build and include the Old DML Ta152H-1. Both are 1/72nd scale.

The PE parts included in the kit and My only addition ASK canopy and wheel masks.

Thanks Nigel, Ed, Zac, and Stephen. I appreciate you looking in.
I have pretty much finished the cockpit assembly and the bulkhead it attaches to. It all goes together well with for Me, a couple of exceptions.
1. Instrument Panel Decals. Thick, Brittle. I couldn't get them to conform, and they broke apart so just painted the IP the best I could. (It really won't be seen anyway!)
2. The PE parts are well designed, especially the seatbelts. Again, this is just Me but especially with some parts I would appreciate a plastic backup like seen in Eduard kits. As an example, I dropped one of the rudder pedals and of course failed to locate the thing. I was fortunate in that I had an old Pe sheet with some Basic German rudder pedals I used for both pedals. Like I said, A plastic backup would be nice
Otherwise, the somewhat complex interior set up seems like it is going to fit....Fingers crossed. The engine assembled easily and again, seems as though it will line up with the bulkhead and openings for exhausts. As the cowl panels will be closed as molded, I am just going to do a basic paint job on the engine.

Like you said, it can't be seen! This is a nice level of detail for 1/72, looking forward to seeing more.

Nice start.
I agree about having a plastic alternative (which I often prefer for 3d items like pedals although they're rarely seen in the bowels of a dark cockpit)

I went further on the build of the IBG kit over the last few days. A word of warning on this kit: Be absolutely PRECISE in all construction and TEST FIT FREQUENTLY!
even a Small misalignment creates problems down the line.

1. I finished painting the engine and gluing the assembly to the firewall/bulkhead. Time to glue the interior and fuselage halves together. No matter how hard I tried I couldn't get the forward fuselage to go together with the cockpit aligned and the engine and exhausts in place. So I had to begin to eliminate some stuff that I thought was fouling the fit of the engine/fuselage.
2. I cut stuff off and managed to get things together. I added the underside wing assembly, filled, and am ready to see if the PE wheel well parts will fit my assembly.

Bottom line here is that the kit is well detailed and designed , but the Modeler has to be precise!!!!

I note that modern kits seem to include a spar of sorts in the construction: is that because it is visible through the cockpit canopy or is it just for strength?

Advantage of scratchbuilding: if a part does not fit you know who to blame.....!

Stephen,
The Spar is not visible through the cockpit. It's purpose in this case is two fold:
1. It sets the angle of Dihedral for the wings.
2. It forms the rear of the wheel well as per the original.

As for that advantage of Scratchbuilding you mentioned, I still Know who is responsible for the issues of fit

Today I added the Wheel Well PE and attached the Upper wing halves. Other than losing a couple of PE parts it all came together well!
