Aces Mounts 2025 GB OEFFAG MICKL type H. Gottfried VonBanfield
« on: November 26, 2025, 04:56:56 AM »

Finally finished!
Work and family time have kept me busy lately. I was however able to put the final touches on this aircraft. I?m not real pleased with the outcome, the right lower resin wing has warped a little.  The beaching dolly doesn?t seem to fit well either.
Gottfried Von Banfield flew this aircraft as his primary mount from Trieste naval air station through-out the war. He has no recorded kill in it despite his nine victories. He claims several more aircraft forced down but most were quickly recovered by the Italian MAS fast attack boats that operated in conjunction with the Italian aircraft bombing missions. .

I rarely paint or add figures to my models. Here?s my attempt for this project.

Another issue I had was the fine black outline of the crosses.  My decals broke up considerably and I had to freehand a lot of the outline.

I purchased what I thought was a finished grassy base on eBay. It turns out it?s just a print mounted photo. Doesn?t look too bad though!

Thanks for looking in!

It's a great representation of Banfield's Blue Bird Tim!

Terrific work Tim, that's come up wonderfully! I know next to nothing about this side of the air war so evidently need to do some reading.

Great looking model!, I really like the color you used as it's not too bright and looks a bit worn as I'm sure the finish on those amphibious aircraft probably suffered in the salty conditions they were exposed to.  And the tie off rope attached to the front/side of the fuselage is a really nice touch.
I also know very little about the aquatic aircraft used in that sector of the war, it's of interest to see when one is completed and posted.
As a side... your pilot is looking pretty good too...

Take care

That's great modelling despite the issue with the wing, which isn't very noticeable but must really annoy you! Lovely finishing all round, the weathering is spot on and it's beautifully put together.

Despite the warped wing and trolley issues its still turned out really well!

Annoying about the warp in the lower wing and the trolley, but I would not have noticed had you not said, Tim.

Your model looks great to me as does your pilot figure.

Looks great - the scheme is really different. I can imagine fixing the top wing to these a-h flying boats is challenging!
Cheers Matt

Fab result, skilled work on full show (I feel humble, having an unmade one :()

Would love it if it inspired Lukgraph or somebody to produce a new kit of this. It might have been a one off but its history is fascinating.

This sis another new type to me. This model may not satisfy you completely but I would be very happy to have it on my shelf! Superb finish and as others have commented, the rope and figure really add to an already first class model.

I am now off to find some plans for this - definitely an addition to my to do list!

Lovely model by the way, Tim.
