Friedrich Karl von Preussen's Albatros D. I Pegasus 1/72
« on: October 07, 2025, 01:22:36 AM »
Those that have followed along with the build thread will know the amount of effort needed to bring this one to completion - it was the gift that kept on giving  ::)
Originally this one was to be Deiter Collins aircraft for the Aces GB, but dodgy decals meant a bit of switch late in the day to a well known aircraft that wasn't flow by an ace - Ah well best laid plans etc.

Anyway based on the Pegasus kit form waaaaay back it needed a fair bit of love and attention, but was mostly enjoyable. Struts are from soldered brass, propeller carved and various details were scratch built or purloined from the spares box.

That has turned out beautifully, especially considering the challenges you had along the way. It's a real little gem, looking extremely sharp and precise, no mean achievement  given you started with a Pegasus kit!

Thanks Matey - I managed to beat it into some kind of shape in the end, hopefully I'll make less of meal of the next one ;)

Well done Paul, you turned out a beauty.
Alan.

Cheers Alan ;D

Whether Collins or von Preussen, this is an attractive scheme, beautifully rendered. That it's 1/72 makes it even more impressive.

Very, very nice.
Albatros D.I is still missing in my collection, your fine effort has just reminded me that I may wish to build this one, too.

It's a nice looking aircraft and the early version has that slightly awkward appearance that was lost when the wing was lowered and it became more 'shark like' (It also means you have a chance to see what's going on in that space which is always nice given the amount of effort to get everything to fit)  ;)

That was made form a Pegasus kit? Well done! The fact that it is in God's Own Scale makes it even more attractive.

God's own scale indeed  8)
Made rather a meal of it, but got there in the end (Still got another Pegasus Di/II on the shelf should I feel the urge to have another go at some point)

So glad you stuck with this to the end, marvelous finish worth the effort. The art on the spinner looks perfect.
What do you use for rigging, looks perfect.
I have an Eduard D.II to convert once my balance of power is resumed.
Thanks,
Allan Buttrick

Thanks Allan  ;D

Rigging is 1lb monofilament (about 0.6mm diameter) Drilled and superglued through the wings. On this one I ran the line through a silver Sharpie first. Turnbuckles are paint
