Aces Mounts 2025 GB - 1/72 Eduard SPAD X.III Early
« on: August 24, 2025, 09:38:59 AM »
Hello everyone! After well over a year away from WW1 modelling, I have decided to jump in on the group build!

My chosen subject is the lovely little 1/72 SPAD X.III (early) from Eduard, in its Weekend Edition boxing:

It should be a simple build, though no doubt i'll find a way to make it unnecessarily harder for myself...!

In terms of markings, I am thinking of going with the in-box option of Guynemer's final mount, to keep things simple, but certainly open to ideas.

3, 2, 1... chocks away!

Cheers,

Just found this post for your friend. I hope my reply to your/his question on my post works for you both.....
After seeing what you did with the BM SNIPE, I'm sure you will knock this out of the park.
Thanks,
Allan Buttrick

Nice Choice Brad (and hopefully less work than the BM kit)  ;)

Looking forward to this one

Thanks chaps - and thanks Allan, my 'friend' will be most thankful  ;D ;)

Cut some plastic from some sprues this afternoon for some dry fitting - looks like this should be a nice kit to build... I especially like they way that Eduard integrated the turtledeck and horizontal stabiliser in the one piece.

The other thing that strikes me is that the SPAD is surprisingly small when compared to other aircraft - quite a compact and powerful machine in its day, no doubt!

Great to see you back in the correct era!  :) Excellent choice, I built this one back in the day, I don't remember too many issues with it.

It should be a simple build.....
Don't tempt fate.....

Great choice Brad. This is a really nice kit with very little fit issues.

Hi all - some EXTREMELY slow progress due to work and other things keeping me away from the bench... interior painting is done. Only addition was rigging and some extremely basic seat belts from tape. Not my best work but good enough to progress with given the tiny size of the cockpit opening...

The race is on to see if I can get this one done by the deadline...

Cheers!

As always your wood tones and detail painting are superb!

I'd love to see this but sadly I can't as I am in the UK...... :( (Imgur hosted photos are not viewable for folks in the UK)

The build is gathering momentum....!

Thanks for letting me know Nigel re Imgur. Bummer; shame that this is banned in the UK as it's free and easy to use. Happy to take suggestions on any other free and easy to use image hosting sites.

I had to switch from Imgur to Flickr, still free, a little more cumbersome than Imgur but not much different.

Looking good Brad.

I have switched to Flickr as well and it works fine - a bit less user friendly than Imgur but even I worked it out and that?s saying something!
Cheers
