ICM 1/48 scale Junkers Ju88A-5
« on: August 16, 2025, 07:23:13 PM »
As a nine year old, I remember the Airfix catalogue listing their 1/72 scale Ju88 as their premier model, having so many parts...but I couldn't afford it on my 1 shilling per week pocket money. When I first moved to Canada soon after, the first model I bought was the Lindberg Ju88 in "whatever" scale. It even came as advertised on the box, with a FREE display stand! So I've always had a thing for the Ju88.

Taking a break from my WnW kits, I've just finished an ICM 1/48 model of the Junkers 88A-5 (actually built from the the A-4 kit which had all of the parts needed). A fellow modeller from the US kindly sent me the much-needed decals to make a Battle of Britain example from 4./LG 1 based in France in August of 1940. In the cockpit I added a few home-made seat belts from thin lead sheet & copper wire, and also some MG15 gun barrels from Master. Realizing how much work was involved with the canopy masking, I also acquired the Montex masks for the canopy which aslo included the masks for the markings...so I used those too. Painted with Tamiya acrylics and weathered using acrylic, pastel chalks and diluted oil paints. I posed it with a set of ICM 1/48 Luftwaffe characters, which I've used previously with my other projects (Do.17Z & Heinkel He.III-H3)
Cheers!

The first model I ever owned of the Ju88, and built in 1966. Back then the box top served as a painting guide - but who needed paint if the plastic was green?

The ICM kit of the Ju88A-5 with the only Battle of Britain markings available

The completed model displayed with some ICM figures (painted up a few years ago) which had served duty with several of my BoB German medium bomber builds.

Great job, you wouldn't think that was a Lindberg kit, they were fairly basic despite having a free display stand.

Very nice Gary. I like your weathering approach, subtle but very effective amd realistic IMO.

It's not, it's an ICM kit...... ;)

Now that's a lovely Ju88.
Complemented well with the figures,

Mike

Sorry,  I went by the picture of the Lindberg kit. None the less this doesn't take anything away from the fact that it's a great looking plane regardless of manufacturer.

I forget to peek in here. Great looking 88 and 188.

I hadn't realized 'till now how much attention you give to the canopies, look beautiful.
Look how much better the 188 sits as opposed to the 88 because of the flat spotted tires.
Thanks,
Allan Buttrick
