Aces Mounts 2025 GB - Buddecke's Eiii 96/15
« on: August 03, 2025, 01:42:03 AM »
This will be the first of hopefully 2 builds. 96/15 is likely to be Buddecke's 'yellow bird with black, threatening eyes' that he used while based in the Dardanelles, although it's not 100% certain. Given there were only 2 Eiii's available and this one was definitely yellow, I'm going with 96/15! The 'black eyes' are of course the Ottoman national markings.  I still have 3 other ones on the workbench, so i might be juggling between projects for a while.

cheers
Matt

Looking forward to seeing this one, especially with the Ottoman markings.

Great choice Matt - the Eindecker is a great subject for those famous early aces. Looking forward to this one!

Progress is being made slowly!

The close up is a bit brutal to look at but it looks ok to the naked eye. Now on to closing her up.

cheers

Looking very good  indeed, nice work in 1/48.

The close up is a bit brutal to look at but it looks ok to the naked eye.
They can be brutal, especially if taken with a mobile phone (which tend to overdo the contrast and colours). But I am sure this looks great in the flesh.

Thanks for all the nice comments!

A bit more progress.  The representation of the bottom door panels was a little underwhelming, so I had a crack at redoing this - I mostly based it off the Wingnuts Eiii although I also used the Windsock plans as well - especially for redoing the bottom seam stitching which seemed a bit off on the Eduard kit.

Not perfect by any means but it will do - I also added the rod/tube running across which was for attaching the wings on the side when it was it was being road transported. One day I wouldn't mind doing a diorama of this - there are some good pics around.

and here it is in a dry fitting.

the wooden panels are drying the background.

I've now sealed her up - I find it easier to skin these with Evergreen rather than try to get rid of the seam - plus I can cover up my mistakes!

The front panel is just a dry fit at the moment. That will be it for a few weeks as i have to go overseas. Hopefully a few supplies will have arrived and i can get some paint on!

cheers
Matt

Lovely modelling all round, that improved door looks so much better. That's a really interesting approach with the reskinning of the fuselage, I had never considered that. It can be really hard to eliminate those seams.....
