Blue Max Bristol M.1C, 1/48........
« on: July 29, 2025, 04:50:26 AM »
Fun old kit of a cool looking airplane. Intended to build it completely out-of-box but some drama prevented me doing so.

Build log here:   https://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=15062.0

The bottom shot.

Decals were old and cracked but I saved most. The tailskid was half the size it should be and the kit wheel/tires looked small. I scratched a new skid and resin cast some wheels from an Eduard Camel and used those. I added missing oil and fuel caps and I was able to splice together the correct serial number from the kit. My own recipe for PC-12.

I replaced all the control horns and rigged with E-Z Line fine. I somehow lost the kit machine gun and replaced with a Gaspatch 3D printed version. I added 3D printed rivets around the metal fuseladge and Quinta 3D linen lacing.

I enjoyed my first "Blue Max" kit and will be building more of them.

But really, where could something as big as the machine gun have vanished to......

Now that you've replaced it it will re-appear as if by magic!

Cheers,

Every now and again someone puts something out on this site which makes me say to myself "why don't I have this kit in the stash?" It then goes on the radar. Your build has put this one on the radar, fingers crossed!

Outstanding Allan! BM certainly did some nice kits back in the day. Sure, they weren't the easiest thing in the world to build, but they were accurate in shape and nice overall. You've done a cracking job with this one.

Thanks everyone. Something very relaxing about not having to attach the upper wing at all.
I have at least 3 other mono-wing aircraft for when I need a break again.
Glad you enjoyed the Bristol.
Thanks,
Allan Buttrick
