Bird Models?
« on: April 05, 2025, 07:21:24 AM »
Does anyone have any experience with Bird Models kits (Germany)?
They offer resin + metal kits of highly esoteric aircraft, mostly WWII prototypes and unbuilt projects.
The also offer 6 WWI Junkers aircraft in 1/72: J.3-II (unbuilt two seat project), J.5 (unbuilt single seater), J.6 (parasol fighter, incomplete due to the end of war), J.7 (early D.I prototype), J.8 (CL.I prototype) and J.11 (CLS.I floatplane).
Bird Models sell on Ebay and they only show photos of poorly built models, which are not very tempting...
The kits are fairly priced and I would love a Junkers CLS.I.
Any first hand information on the quality of these kits would be appreciated.

Update: I've ordered a J.11 (CLS.1 floatplane prototype), I'll update when it arrives.

Update:
I have received the Junkers J.11 (CLS.I) from Rudolf Vogel of Bird Models.
My main concern when ordering were the corrugated metal sheets that covered the entire aircraft, as any defect in them would be very difficult to correct.
Luckily, this and other details are well represented in the kit.
However, the kit parts require A LOT of cleaning from eccess resin, the wing trailing edges are very thick and some of the smaller parts will have to be replaced. Small lengths of metal wire are supplied for the struts connecting the floats to the body.
The kit comes without a box, just a plastic bag, and as a whole looks like a home made project.
It will require a lot of work and is probably only for those looking for the most esoteric types.
A Junkers J.6 parasol fighter is already on its way to me  ;)
