Hannover CL.III , One last question.....
« on: February 14, 2025, 08:48:35 AM »
I can find no written description of this aircraft that specifically describes the color of the fuselage. If someone has something please point me in the right direction.

Often depicted as green, WnW's, not often wrong, states most Hannover CL.III's were finished in "Prussian Blue". That blue is pretty dark.

Either blue or green, it's dark enough to have the black lettering almost blend in.

In the above, it's almost as dark as the black of the cross.

And lastly, OK I have two questions, is that a lozenge pattern on the bottom of the fuselage? I read somewhere they were varnished plywood on the bottom.

Thanks Chaps !!
Thanks,
Allan Buttrick

Most were oversprayed in a dark colour, usually interpreted as dark (Prussian) blue. There is a theory that the undersides were painted in stripes of the lozenge colours, something I always thought was unlikely (due to cost and complexity) but this photo appears to show hints of the stripes. Go to the Wingnut Wings site and look at the instructions for theior Hannover Cl.II kits, these show colour interpretations of the undersides.
