Meng 1/35 scale Mk.A Whippet
« on: January 21, 2025, 07:17:29 AM »
This is Meng's 1/35 scale Mk.A Whippet medium tank with a few modifications to match some reference photos I was working from. I added some strengthening ribs to the sides of both drive-sprocket housings, and some stowage box mounts to the rear end of the vehicle. a small adjustment was also made to the exhaust pipe outlets to point them slightly upward instead of sideways. It was finished in a Tamiya mix of a brownish khaki drab, and weathered with oil paints and chalk pastels. The figures were painted using Vallejo acrylics.
Cheers,
Gary

Brilliant diorama, it just looks so real!

That's a lovely bit of work Gary.  8)
I'm especially taken with the splashes of colour provided by the flimseys and the general weathering

Cheers

Lovely work Gary, I can appreciate it a bit better looking at these photos on my PC. I really like those additions on the tank, and I am a big fan of your finishing and weathering on the tank - realistic and not overdone IMO. The figures and groundwork go really well with the tank and create a very atmospheric vignette. Well done!

Alan, Paul, Willem Edo & Nigel - thanks for your comments on the build!

Hi Edo - hose are "spud" attachments for the tracks. I couldn't find any photos in my books or on line of a vehicle actually employing them for that purpose. I also couldn't find any photos of a current museum example, and had to paint them up as per the instructions as a wooden block with metal ends & bolts on each side.
Cheers,
Gary
