Shelf Queen 2025 Group Build: CSM Bristol Scout C: Finished
« on: January 16, 2025, 05:47:01 AM »
My Contribution to the Shelf Queen Group Build is the CSM Bristol Scout C. I lost interest/Heart on the build when I realized the roundels should have been French rather than British! ( I failed to READ the Marking Directions and Just Looked at the placement/painting Drawings) Thus it has languished on the Shelf of Doom for quite a while. I will either need to create a mask for the French roundels, I somehow lost mine, or if anyone has an unused set they would part with send a PM.

The original Build Log:
https://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=13884.msg256395#msg256395

The kit is "Mostly" rigged just lacking the aileron, rudder, and elevator control wires. Thanks for the GB inspiration, Brad!

You reminded me of my boo boo when making my Scout - I sprayed the rings of the "ghost" roundels in the wrong colour order compared to the top wing. And I did that twice!

Thats one other small irritation on My build. I did a Very Subtle see through on the underside. One has to look closely but Blue is the outer color on the roundel. Not much I can do to change that now.

I have the Gavia (Eduards) kit of the Scout, I would leave the ghosted roundels and see how many people catch it.
Thanks,

Great to see this coming to completion RAGIII

Just a thought - Rather than re-do the roundels wouldn't it be easier to just repaint the rudder number for one of the later aircraft with RFC style roundels (I don't have my references to hand so that may be a non starter) :-\

I intend to do just that! With the rigging in place it would be virtually impossible to change. I am certainly glad I left it Very Subtle!

Paul, I chose this one as I liked the union jack on the fuselage side and most others were using the Hawker Markings. I don't know if there were other Scouts with the Union Jack marking?

After a bit of procrastination I went back to this one for the Group Build. Upon opening the box that I had stored the remaining parts in I realized the French Roundels were Not Missing! I went forward and began applying the roundels. All went well except for one that broke up, probably My Fault! I have contacted Edgar and have a path to replacing the final roundel needed! Thanks Edgar!! I also have finished the Wing Cellule rigging and added elevator and rudder control lines. Finally, a bit of Tamiya Smoke mixed with Tamiya Clear Yellow was stippled on to represent "Fresh" oil staining.

Very nice. I think it's kinda cool with the mixed roundels on the underside...

Hi Rag, Nice Job!
Could you please show a zoom  of the fresh oil stanning ? I'am interested to see the result of the mix you did ...

Lovely job Rick, it's great to see this one nearing the finish line. Great work all round and the weathering looks very effective. Hopefully that roundel will be with you soon....

Thanks Bo. I guess if things had gone the usual worst way I could have left it like that  8)

I will see what I can do Xan. I was looking to see if one of My Nieuports had a better shot of the effect. Seeing your Nieuport makes Me think your Techniques need no improvement!

Thanks Nigel. I am working on the Roundel order this morning. I am just having a Senior Moment regarding whether I ask for the lower right or left wing roundel #4. Looking at the instruction sheet with a Magnifying glass I think it is the one marked "Left"
