Nieuport 11"BeBe" Walkaround ..... The Vintage Aviator
« on: January 15, 2025, 12:27:29 AM »
For all (CSM?) Nieuport 11 builders, here are some very interesting pictures of the airplane.
I think that this is probably not a 100% correct replica, but some of it can certainly be used to build the model
- it is flown with an 80Ps LeRhone rotary engine.

The pictures are from James Fahey @Jamo and therefore a guarantee for excellent picture material.

I am joining in: A big Thank you, Bertl. These pictures are of great value. As there have been so many Nieuport specialists involved in the kit making at Copper States, I will stick to their instructions if differences occur. Especially because there are many differences between this cockpit and the photos of the original cockpit in these instructions. But alone the picture of the oil soaked linen on the inside of the cockpit behind the wooden panels remind me vividly that this is a rotary engine and the airframe needs to be weathered accordingly.

Don't forget this walkaround as well. It's a real one, although it has been restored and recovered, so I don't necessarily trust the finish....

Yeah, there are some areas that are not correct. For example, the side panels?where are they?
Also, the tail skid looks rather unusual; I?ve seen different designs as well, so it?s definitely not a common feature.
Another thing: the black outline for the markings hasn?t been proven to be correct.
The V-strut housing in photos appears to be aluminum, not blue.
Black wheels in 1916? That?s also rather strange.
The outline behind the pilot?s cockpit cutout is missing as well.
Why aren?t the cabane struts painted blue? That goes against the regulations.
The top wing should have outlines on both the left and right half-wings, so you?d see a painted line in the middle. On early Nieuport 11s, you could even spot thin painted stripes on the central ribs, which are thicker and likely served to reinforce the wing surface.

Sadly, it?s just a replica with a metal frame, so while it looks somewhat like a Nieuport 11 on the outside, it?s not accurate on the inside.
some details outside are also not correct

Totally. I had noted some of these (like the lack of inspection panels). It's sad that a museum with such an important collection can get things so wrong.
