Christmas nostalgia for 2024- Revell 1/72nd WWI kits
« on: December 25, 2024, 07:44:39 AM »
Merry Christmas to each and everyone here on the ww1aircraftmodels forum! Wishing all of you a lovely and relaxing yuletide and all good tidings in the new year.

Most of my Christmases are in my rearview mirror nowadays, but nothing conjures warm memories of my childhood Christmases quite like my humble collection of untouched Revell 1/72nd WWI models. For years, my father (RIP) always made sure to put one or two in my stocking. Sometimes they were hidden among the branches of our Christmas tree. Most of them got built... to the extent that my little hands could build them, but some of these are survivors that mom kept safe for decades during my military career. Others were obtained later as replacements for those which had received their baptism of Testors tube glue and Humbrol paints all of those years ago.

If there are particular kits or brands that reconnect you with fond memories of childhood, then by all means please pile onto this topic because many among us enjoy seeing the old kits.

Bruno: "How many rules are there?"

Willi: "I don't know... none of zem have ever been written down."

Merry Christmas Vickers! What a great memory to have!

There are also brands that connect with my childhood; here's just a few WW1 kits / brands that I have fond memories of, which I have collected over the last few years -

I also have a soft spot for those Revell kits, even if they were a bit before my time - so much so I had to collect the whole set of UK first editions :)

Lastly, here's another Christmas connection - me at Christmas circa 1992 or 1993 (about age 11 or 12), with some model kits I received for Christmas -

I later picked up the same boxings, for nostalgia reasons :)

Never lose those childhood memories of things that still bring you joy, I say!

Merry Christmas again to you all!

Cheers,

Brad C

This, the bagged Airfix Fokker Dr.I, was my first WWI kit. After building some French jets from Heller and a few Airfix WWII kits I saw this little red marvel and I was hooked.

Our pre-Christmas treat when I was a kid was a day trip to London when we went to a big department store to choose our Christmas presents. I still remember choosing a couple of Renwal Aeroskin WWI kits (can't remember which ones though). Amazing things at the time (late 60s).
