Meng 1/32 Fokker Dr.1 LvR
« on: November 17, 2024, 03:54:49 PM »
This is one of my all time favorite all time aircraft.  I was so excited when it was announced by WnW.  I was absolutely devastated when WnW went belly up, and I was so thrilled when it was announced by Meng.  I was so excited I bought ten kits.  This kis the first one I finished.

When I was thinking about which one to do first, I knew I wanted to use the streaky camo decals from Aviattic.  At the time there was no set for Lothar.  there was just the generic Fokker Dr 1 set.  So I had to Mask and paint the yellow areas, and I also had to mask and paint the olive areas around the crosses.   Another thing I had to do was source the serial number 454/17.

I used the Gas Patch parabellums and their turnbuckles. I believe I used the LF Models wood prop.  I also used the HGW seatbelts.

Now I'm working on Jacobs and I'll start another soon....

Wonderful job all round, that looks fantastic. Lovely weathering and nice attention to detail everywhere. Gotta love those Aviattic decals...... :)

Very nice. All around, and the decals are probably the best way to get streaking right.

Your completed Meng DR1 looks wonderful!

I notice you have also managed to straighten out the upper wing - was that difficult?

Regards

Dave

I've built two of these and in both cases a few repeated dunks in near boiling water followed by brute force straightening was enough to fix the bent wing. Not difficult.

I keep seeing people crying about the wing all over the internet, I just bent it back.  No boiling water, no heat guns, I just bent it with my hands.... took 30 seconds.   Don't let all these guys get you worked up, this kind of stuff is not a big deal to fix.

Thanks for the kind words everyone

Magnificently executed all round - the finish is stunning, as are the details, and the prop. Wonderful stuff, sir!

That's a beautiful Dr.1! A striking scheme perfectly rendered all around and the oil stains and weathering are excellent. Bravo!

I second Vickers' comment above. The color variation with the streaking and weathering on the yellow tail, continuing forward onto the streaked fuselage is wonderful.
