1/48 Eduard Albatros DII done as D.491/16
« on: October 30, 2024, 12:06:02 PM »
got a good start to this project and paused to take a few in-progress snaps.   A step I usually forget until it's too late.

Using the Kagero/Techmod decal sheet and for reference the excellent Ace Profile No3 by James F Miller

wood grain by the Tamiya Deck Tan/Burnt Sienna oil paint trick, propeller done similarly but with judicious use of thin strips of masking tape and a dip in the Tamiya Clear Yellow.  The seat is from Barracuda with kit PE belt extensions.

I may forego the Woodgrain Decals for the exterior and just continue with the Deck Tan/Burnt Sienna method (we shall see)

Tony

Very nice interior and propeller, Snowbird3a. Well detailed and the colors look spot on!

A couple more in progress pics here;
the wings were given a coat of very light blue, them masked , then a overspray of a 'darker' more accurate light blue.   The contrast is more apparent in these pics than is is in real life.

The fuselage was sprayed with Tamiya Deck Tan, given a coat of Future then brushed with Burnt Sienna oils, then sealed with more Future.

Nice work Tony, this is progressing well and is going to be a cracker when done. The wood looks very nice, very effective use of oils. No need for decals IMO.

Hope you had a good trip back from SMW, it was a pleasure to meet up with you there.

Good progress, bro! I find oil paints are a bit tedious to work with because of their drying times...but it does allow one to get busy on other sub-assemblies & projects whilst waiting to progress the build.
Cheers,
Gary

That is looking very nice indeed Tony. I thought the wood grain looked good before but it is even better now. I love the way you have handled all the details and the prop looks very nice as well. This is going to be a lovely build when it's done.

This is turning into a real masterpiece Tony! Von Richthofen would give you a nod of approval, I am sure!

What paints did you use for the upper side colours? They look very good.

Do I also spy some replaced wheels (Barracuda)? I agree the kit ones are a bit small (not as bad as in their D.III kit, but still too small). The right sized wheels really adds to the look.

Cheers!
