Aviatik (Berg) D.I Flik 74/J, September 1918, 1:32 HPH
« on: October 30, 2024, 08:24:07 AM »
Hello all,

I have started this in March 2023. I completed it for 80% and left it for over a year just to start some other projects which are also unfinished to this day. Oh yes, I do have problems finishing modelling projects.
In the meantime my picture host abload.de went bankrupt and all my photos are gone including those I once had moved from photobucket there. I do not know when I have the time to do this again, so no in-progress pictures from this build.
If you are interested in the historical background of this airplane, here?s the link to the old build report: https://forum.ww1aircraftmodels.com/index.php?topic=13733.0
I chose to build 138.119 because it is the airplane before 138.120, the plane that is portrayed by the HPH kit. These Austro-Hungarian airplanes are much more unique objects than any other Nations? aeroplanes of World War One, as A-H was the least industrialized nation of the warring parties.
To my knowledge only one photograph of 138.119 exists and it only shows a part of the machine. So there?s much on this airplane that leaves fields of interpretation.
I painted the hexagons with self-brewed paint mixtures and the kit-supplied masks. The serials and the star markings were masks. These were made by my friend Frank (bughunter) who might be remembered here by some. He is a master on his plotter.
Hope you like my first Austro-Hungarian subject.

Andreas

Beautiful! I was hoping this might re-emerge at some point. And I agree there is something about a-h aircraft?. Perhaps a touch more steam punk? Anyhow, stunning results.
Cheers

That is stunning Borsos, bravo! I have this kit and doing the lozenge has been putting me off. However, I found a picture of a late-war WKF built machine that has the raised guns and it is in the two tone grey camo, so that is my way of dodging the lozenge issue. The decals aren't very good IMO so the only alternative is to spray using the masks. You did a superb job on this lozenge scheme, again well done!

Thank you very much, Matt, Nigel and Paul.
That touch of steam punk is exactly what I like, too  :) E.g. I have no idea what this device on top of the radiator was made for. Looks like an espresso machine?

Beautiful! Austro Hungarian camouflage patterns are easily my favourite, especially the big colourful lozenge.  You?ve done a superb job of painting this scheme.

Congratulations on your marvelous Aviatik-Berg D.I, Borsos! That is one impressive model of a plane that we don't see often even here.

Hi Andreas,
That's a lovely representation of the 'Berg'.
Sadly, it's an aircraft we don't see built very often.
Congratulations,

Mike

Superb realisation of what I believe is quite a difficult kit. Beautifully brought to fruition.

Excellent representation of that off-kilter lozenge: what a colourful beast.

Glorious
