Lozenge camuflage

I could use a little help. I will make a 1:48 scale Fokker D.VII in lozenge camouflage. I am wondering when I can use the blue ribbons and when the magenta ribbons on wings?

It would be easier to help if you?d name the exact airplane you want to replicate. The Fokker D. VII was build by three manufacturers (Fokker Schwerin, Albatross Johannisthal and Ostdeutsche Albatroswerke Schneidem?hl), whose products differed in many ways. Next to that come the differences between production batches and differences caused by shortages of raw materials. So there?s no general answer to your question.

I will be doing one of the ones I get in this kit from Eduard 8134 - Fokker D. VII DUAL COMBO 1/48. But they wrote that the ones in the box are Albatros production. All camouflages otherwise show blue stripes. The only differences are whether I'm doing a four-color lozenge scheme or a five-color one.

If you build Joseph Raesch?s red and white machine with the fork, it should be four colored Tarnstoff and blue rib tapes on upper and lower sides. Have a look for more details here:

No. I'm more interested in whether there were factory-specified patterns, when to use the blue ribbons and when magenta ribbons? I understand that the Fokker was produced by three factories and that towards the end of the war the situation was as it was, but there was always a pattern.

   Have you tried to find information using our "Search" function here on the Forum? Try searching "Rib Tapes" here, you'll find some useful info on the subject. Keep in mind there are few, if any, cardinal rules on the subjects of WWI Aircraft. Patterns or directions aside the realities of spartan operations in the field, strained logistical systems, and material shortages due the the realities of war time often led to compromises as well. As I like to say, "The only thing we are sure of is ...... we're not sure"!
