I worked on the second engine of the H-16 yesterday (it was a national holiday in Brazil - Black Consciousness Day). I took advantage and installed the hooks and actuators for the moving surfaces. At this stage the model will have the rigging installed, work that I should start tomorrow and should last throughout the weekend, considering the complexity of the plane.

This weekend I basically worked on rigging the Curtiss H-16, a laborious job that involved a lot of research into the position of all the cables.

The techniques are the same as those already used in other models, we use monofilament nylon and broom bristles glued with viscous cyanoacrylate glue. We use a transfer caliper to measure the size of the cables to be cut and to position them we use a wide variety of small electronics tweezers.

We started from the inside out in the interplane area, starting with the support cables for the engine struts, then adhering each structural "box" of cables following the references. Aircraft from the First World War did not have hydraulic controls, everything was moved by pulleys, the larger the plane, the more pulleys, hence the complex system of control cables that were installed later, then we installed the longitudinal structural cables of the wings following the references and then After three days, we have 80% of the work completed, and can then move on to the tail cables as well as the tail control cables.

That's looking very impressive with all the rigging added. Nice work all round.

After three days of intense work, and meticulous research trying to find out where each cable fits or is located, I finished the Curtiss H-16, adding this classic plane to my collection.

Although it is laborious (it is certainly not a model for beginners), it is very cool to build, and can provide in its original scale (1/45) a basis for detailing the cockpit and engines (although these are very detailed) .

Close in rigging and other details.

As a basis for the work, in addition to the Windsock Datafile on the Curtiss H-12 and Felixstowe, I used this excellent book by Aeronaut, which literally exhausts the subject, including dealing with the Curtiss F5L that editor will soon be designing.

Murph's Models should make the model available soon (maybe even today) and I highly recommend it.

Well done, this whole build has looked like a lot of work and the end result is well worth it.

Thank you my friends! Indeed I very proud and like a lot this model! I take a little break, but the next is a Felixstowe F2a, I printed today. :D
