Hansa-Brandburg W-29 by Pegasus

Another of my Pegasus builds to complete the collection.

The kit was started yesterday and is so far falling together.  All of the parts cleaned up with no problems, no broken parts and only minimal flash.  This is the level Pegasus had brought this medium of building before he retired.  I expect no surprises and it appears the decals will survive.  That is my main concern.  I should know tomorrow.

The kit will be built out of the box depicting a W29 captured by the British in December 1918.  There is no information on the pilot or unit it flew with.  At least none that I have.  Soon after it was captured all German markings were over-painted with British roundels.

Nice choice Dennis
As you say this is one of the later kits and compares very well the the CSM kit of the same subject that I was gifted (Still not sure which one I'll eventually build)  :-\

Aviattic do some nice lozenge decal if the originals break up. The big question is are you going for the 'controversial' pale green fuselage on your version as depicted in the Datafile? Personally I think it looks really nice and my understanding is that the colour was a local one, possibly from a chandler supplies, that was added by the British after they captured the aircraft during the re-paint. Should stand out nicely in your collection  :D

A little up date.  It seems the W-29 was in the middle of the Pegasus production, not the end.  Going back through my records, it looks like it was produced in the early 90s.  I did not build it as at that time I was not duplicating builds.  The Veeday kit had been released and I built it within minutes of receiving it the mail.   That has changed over time.  More on this at the end of the build.

And the build will be pale green as, I too, like it.

As far as the decals, the instrument panel decals went on without a hitch, so I am hoping the lozenge ones will follow suit.  They are coated with Future so the hope is they will survive.  If not, the wailing and sobbing will cause you to turn your heads as no one needs to see that.

There will be no weeping and gnashing of teeth as the decals applied flawlessly.  Hard to believe they are as old as they are and are still in tact.  Going through my endless supplies, I found an Americal decal sheet that would have saved the day.  It was not needed.

The floats were ok but I wanted them to look more like wood.  And what medium accomplishes that, you ask?  Real wood.  The veneer was cut and glued to the sides and a very thin wash was applied over the wood.  I think it looks like wood.

The wing walks were added and corrected after I saw the photo.

Those decals look good, and the veneer work is really clever, looks very effective.
