Tim, to make molds for casting a couple of copies without the expense of silicone, try this stuff, works great with just hot water.

And once finished, you can heat it up again and use it for something else. I mean, how many Pfalz D.XII radiators will we ever need in our life...

Great job on those little beauties...

Thanks,
Allan Buttrick

Sorry it’s been so long since my last post. Work has been keeping me busy. I have been able to get some bench time in though.
I cut masks for the wheels and added some details to the kit undercarriage.

The wings were covered in Quinta studio lozenge. I used Eagle Strike rib tapes. Salmon color on one and Blue on the other.

The undercarriage is complete and rigged with EZ line.

Attachment of the upper wing will be very difficult on this kit because the supplied cabane struts do not fit properly . I decided to use my Aeroclub wing jig.

This jig locks the model in place as well as the upper wing. Makes for a stable platform to scratch build the cabane struts.

The rear cabane struts are in place. I’ll paint these, then add the front pair.
Thanks for looking in!
Tim

These are looking really good Tim. Nice work on scratchbuilding the cabane struts.

Finito!

I have finally completed these two builds. I had to remove the top wing twice because I had the cabane struts too long. Even though I used the Aeroclub jig I still managed to get the measurements wrong. This it is not exactly an easy build. I really complicated things by adding the Part photo etch set. The base kit is adequately detailed in my opinion.
Not impressed with Peddinghaus decals at all. Even with doubling the national markings the white portion was still transparent.
All rigging is fine EZ Line.
The Pfalz D.XII was not an overall improvement over the previous Pfalz D.IIIa but I find it to be an impressive looking aircraft.
First up is Lt. Thiel?s aircraft of Jasta 49 France 1918.

.Next is  Widfang  from Jasta 17. Unknown (to me) pilot.

The D-XII may not have been as famous as the Fokker D-VII but I think it looks very robust. I?m attracted to pretty much all of the Pfalz designs. A wide range of color schemes are available as well. I?ll certainly be building more but not anytime soon!
It?s been a pleasure participating in this group build in Dave?s honor. I appreciate so much all he has done to advance our niche in this hobby!
Thanks for looking in!

Lovely job Tim  8)

Great to see these being built. Like you, I've a soft spot for Pfalz' and it's good to see a pair of the old Toko kits being built in gentleman's scale  ;)

Very nice! And I have a soft spot for Pfalz aircraft as well - I always enjoyed having lunch at the Australian War Memorial and looking at the DXII dangling just outside the window. We seemed to be quite avid collectors of Great War trophies and diligent in dragging them back home!

Cheers

Bravo Tim, great looking pair. Glad you got 'em done just in time.
The Peddinghaus decals are often the only game in town but not a very good one. Too bad he doesn't just double print the white.
I swore I wasn't going to buy more kits but your Pfalz's have me rethinking, damn.......
Your usual top-notch building quality.
Thanks,
Allan Buttrick
