That PE radiator is insane! You earned My respect for just attempting to assemble that thing!! I am sure whatever direction you go with the replacement it will be fine!

Radiators Part 2

Here is the Toko part. I painted a dirty wash to highlight the detail. It really is very nice and I should have just used it in the first place.
It is sitting on top of the silicone mold I made to cast another one.

Here I have poured the resin and am waiting for it to cure. I decided to cast a double row Oberursel 14 cylinder engine with the extra resin.

Not a bad job! I can work with this.

I decided to use some spare Rosemont resin Spandau parts, replacing the jackets with PE and making wire gunsight rings.

Now off to the paint shed.

I was worried when I saw the PE fret, wondering what I was looking at that would make a radiator...oh heck!! Nice work on the kit piece (a wash is such a simple, effective idea) and cloning it - well worth the effort.

That resin mould worked nicely, good job. We're not seeing the Spandaus though, you cut off some of the BB code....

Wow, that's some insane work on that radiator - in 1/72 too!
Great wheez on duplicating the second one.
Looking forward to the colours.

Good work on that radiator. I suppose making a copy was easier work than the PE-variant, and doesn't it look better as well?!

Indeed great, that you did not get rid of the original radiator.

Yet, you were braver than my, attempting to assemble that Part PE... I just looked at it and gave up immediately, somehow forseeing, that the kit part with some wash will be much better.

Looking forward to more progress on your fine double build.

I too wondered how the PE would go - especially as I am not a fan of the stuff. Your kit part and clone are more than good enough IMHO - and will certainly be to your usual very high standard.

Thank you all for your comments and support.  I’ve been very busy with these two builds the last few days.  Too busy for taking any in-progress shots.
My radiator cast worked out very well. Honestly I can’t tell which one is the original.

The lozenge is Quinta 5 color top and bottom. These decals are very translucent so have to be applied over a gloss white surface. None of my other lozenge match the colors so I’m unable to cut rib tapes. I ended up using the Eagle Strike rib tapes. Not entirely correct for the Pfalz built machines but I think look pretty cool.

The Peddinghaus decals work well but the white is very translucent. I ended up doubling the national makings which ended up with a thick carrier film on the fuselage.
The red tailed one has the original Toko decals

A lot of work on the engine and guns. Very busy in here but looks good when completed. I had to thin the pre molded ammo feed chutes to get the guns to fit properly.

Next up is the upper wing and placement.

Thanks for looking in!
Tim

The radiators really turned out Beautifully! I actually don't see how that PE would have been an improvement! Lozenge looks great and I for one would never have known the rib tape might not be correct. Looking fantastic!

Great progress, Tim, the XII is another type that I never gave much thought to until I saw your build, but now I'm wishing (as I often do) that I hadn't missed the Wingnut boat.

Just started to catch up with all these threads. A beautiful pair, the radiators and guns make them look much larger than they are. The moulding is inspirational, I’ve yet to try.
