Hello everyone,
Here is my latest completion, the little 1/72 Revell Fokker Dr.1 Triplane. This is the more modern 2003 moulding (not the old 1960s kit).
It is painted in the markings of 62-victory ace Ltn Ernst Udet’s Fokker Dr.1 586/17, Jasta 4, Laon, France, May 1918. Udet was the second top scoring German ace of WW1, behind Manfred Von Richthofen, aka the “Red Baron”. Udet went on to have a coulourful post war career and was a high-profile member of the Luftwaffe in WW2.
All markings were painted, save for the weights table under the cockpit, the datum line on the forward fuselage, and the “Axial” logos on the propeller, which were decals. The scheme is taken from the Eduard “Du Doch Nicht” instructions. Paints were SMS acrylic lacquers for the most part, with the ‘Fokker streaking’ finish on the forward fuselage and lower wings done with oil paints.
The kit is lovely out of the box, but I made some minor additions to the kit; I added seat belts, rudder pedals, replacement Spandau machine guns using Gaspatch resin items, chin and nose panels, cowling retaining strap, under-fuselage stitching, fuselage grab handles, and I replaced the engine with an Eduard quick boost item with spark plug ignition leads added from wire.

I feel that this is the best 1/72 Fokker Dr.1 on the market. The only criticisms I can level at this kit is firstly, the use of bright red plastic, and secondly, the undercarriage axle wing is angled too far downwards at the rear, which was a bit too hard for me to fix, so I left it as is. Other than that, I think the kit very nicely captures the look of Fokker’s little dreidecker!

Thanks for looking!
