were painfully out of register.

I ordered a decal sheet for French bombers, and the registration on a lot of the unit insignia was terrible. I think towards the end he was getting rather sloppy, and knowing what he was going through in his real life I'm amazed he even tried to make a go of these at all. Sometimes ordering from him was a crap shoot towards the end.
However, for years and years he was the only game in town, and even today some of his subjects have never been touched..

My apologies for the thread drift.

Dennis, it's coming along quite well IMHO, and as Nigel said, you'll knock out that landing gear with no worries.

Time to paint the fuselage.  The blue on the tail and nose were masked off and the light blue on the underside was painted.  The three colors of green and brown were painted freehand and left to dry.  The black stripe was masked off.  The yellow marking were done with a stencil and sprayed.  These two colors are subjective as there is no record of the actual colors.  It was then that the glaring mistakes were corrected.  Nothing like a nice close up-shot to reveal flaws.  These have been corrected.  With the addition of the markings, the fuselage is complete.  The model is progressing without any surprises, which is always a plus.

Rick,

All of my Americal decals have stood the test of time so I may got gotten my early in his production.  They did take a little more work but they were the only game in town at the time.  Pegasus decals were top notch but they have not stood up in the test of time.  Most of my Pegasus decals floated away in the water.  I have seen and heard of some builders making their own lozenge but I was never that brave.

Undercarriage, tail surfaces and lower wing decals added.  Still need to add the German markings on lower wing and trim the rib tape  After that I will drill locating holes for the rigging and mount the top wing.  Since the struts are in one piece, I may not have to break out the Aeroclub jig. We will see.

She's really starting to look the part now. And those rib tapes on the underside were definitely worth it  ;)

The D.XII is now complete.  There was a struggle between me and the struts but I got it looking reasonably ok.  On what should have been an easy kit to rig, there were harsh words between me and the model.  I am going to have to improve my lighting as there is difficulty in seeing the holes that I lace the rigging through.  I doubt it is old age; has to be the lighting.  Yeah, sure.  We all know.  It just takes longer for some to admit it.

This is my second D.XII, the first being the Toko kit shown in the last photo.  A much easier kit to build, by the way.

I now down to four Pegasus kits to build: the DH-2, Sopwith 1 1/2 strutter, HB-W-29 and the Albatros D.I/II.  There are three 1 1/2 strutters, three W-29's, two DH-2's and two Albatros D.I's currently in my collection.  Any suggestions on which one I should build next?  Help me decide.

Next up will be a Roden 1/32 Sopwith Triplane, 1/350 Resin WW2 destroyer and some repairs to some existing kits.

Me busy.  Nah, just another day at the office.

Looks fabulous Dennis  8)

Given the choice I'd go with the HB I reckon (although I've made a start on prepping some DII parts)  :-\

Top tip for spotting the end of the rigging thread is to use a swipe of black Sharpie to colour it; this was a bit of a game changer for me when it was suggested - hopefully that'll help

Nice pair of D.XIIs.
The guy who flew the Toko kit was named Klein though.

My thanks to everyone for their positive comments.  Paul, I will definitely try the black tip on my next model.  Joachim, error noted and corrected.
