Albatros C.III colors

In the Datafile on the Albatros C.III, Ray  Rimell mentions that because the C.III was used so late into the way, that it could be seen with lozenge-covered wings. 

Has anybody seen a photo or a drawing of this plane with lozenge fabric wings?

Were Albatros C.III airframes recovered in Tarnstoff during overhaul? Perhaps, but by that point they were almost certainly relegated to training roles, and not likely subjects for photos. At that time, revised straight-sided national insignia would have been applied, regardless of covering material and I've never seen pics of that.Moreover, pics of post-war C.III's in other nations' service don't show Tarnstoff (unlike Fokker D.VII & D.VIII airframes) covering. But if you're building a model, there's always "Whiffer"

Hi Rick - I remember following the same line of questioning a little while back - if you have the datafile, then have a look at the photo at the bottom of page 16, it shows a lozenge covered machine in the Hansa 4000- production block. If you look closely you can see the lozenge pattern on the fabric surfaces (just).

Sonuvagun!  Yes, Brad, I do see it now.  Ind I will just assume the varnished plywood fuselage, in keeping with Rob's "it's a model" principle.

I was just trying to get the nerve up for CDL covered wings, to be done by hand.  Now I can put that off for a later project.

The C.VI was a re-engined version of the C.III.  The C.VI was used for training purposes when the Alb. C.V & V.II types were arriving for front line service. Known serials for the Alb. C.VI were 1800/16 - 1849/16. Here is one from the rear.
