New from New Jersey
« on: June 20, 2024, 05:50:14 AM »
Hello All,

Jim from Jersey, sometime lurker here, long time member of Aerodrome, which is no longer what it was, especially since they decided the modeling section was too controversial. I see some of my old forum mates are here, so why did I wait so long???

Jim

Welcome to the group, Jim, from a bit farther north in the (US) Berkshires. Glad to have you aboard; a lot of us have found a home here after being parts of other online communities... for my part I was a member of the WWI Modeler's Mailing List from the late 1990s until it finally shut down last year. I was never a participant on the Aerodrome because it always seemed a contentious place—diametrically opposed to this Forum. It's not that people don't disagree or fail to offer constructive criticism (I've been saved from some howlers on several occasions) but it's always done in the best spirit imaginable.

Looking forward to your posts.

Dutch

Hi Dutch, thanks for the kind welcome.  As for posts, I ask for the expertise of others; the only info I can provide is my regurgitation of that garnered from experts in other forums.

Cheers,
Jim

Welcome to our very special Forum Jim. I too tried others including the Aerodrome (Like you state, as a "Lurker") and have been here since almost the beginning, and it's been a positive and motivating experience from day one. Enjoy the ride, and the expertise available here will more then satisfy you; I'm looking forward to your contributions and participation.
Cheers,
Lance

Many thanks Lance!  PJ, though I hail from Hoboken, or Hobucken as the natives used to call it in that distinctive Joisey, Hudson county accent.  I live in Woodbridge Tsp for which New Brunswick is the county seat.  Have detested Jury duty stints there over the decades....TMI???

Cheerio,
Jim

Welcome Jim! You'll find us a helpful and friendly lot around here!

Like you, I am one of the 'old contemptables' from the Aerodrome days; it was a shame that the modelling area there self imploded, but on the plus side, from the ashes rose the phoenix of our little site here :)

Looking forward to having you as part of our little family! Do sing out if you need any assistance with anything along the way.

Cheers,

Jim,

Welcome to the group.  I am on the other coast, the middle of California.  If you are into 1/32nd scale, you have struck the mother-lode.  You will also find there is an insatiable desire for photos.  The more the better.  Show off your work as soon as possible so we do not go into withdrawal.  Glad to have you with us.

Hi Brad, you were among those I mentioned of fellow Aerodromers, and appreciated your time and expertise there, now here!  Dennis, I was one of those...dating myself, who was impressed with Airfix touting that all your models should be the same, 72nd scale!  As for posting pics, I'd have to get one of my adult kids for that.  In any case I'm one of those who has begun more than a few, only to be discouraged by a less than stellar detailing attempt, or disappointment with either paint color or consistancy.  There are only so many times to try to strip paint.  That reverse Midas touch; I used to monkey (now the right word!) with my cars, but now only change oil because I encounter strange, unexpected impediments...but then again the only things left to do nowadays are fluids, plugs, and brakes with all these new techno gimmicks; no carburetors and points....
I should sign off now...ellipsis happy bugger....

Many thanks gents for your kind welcome!
Jim
