I'm loving this build, I've always wanted to do an Aurora Albatros as you've done with your OOB builds, using the skillset I've acquired over the intervening half-century since the last time I slapped one together (filler putty? Whazzat?).

About to do the oil/grunge wash and thought to add the black stripe I forgot on the wing. Loaded up some paint, masking, psssss, psssss, done.
I tried to rescue the kit prop with a new vac-formed spinner from the Eduard kit.



But the prop itself is still rather anemic so I pinched a prop from the parts box. I needed to vac another spinner. During the last bit of trimming the vac-form bit went binging off down between my legs then bounced down to the floor off my chair. How it got behind my chair is a mystery. Of the entire floor to land on, it settled right behind one of the wheels and I crushed the nose under the wheel. The new nose and now my master are crushed. Hearing my .....frustration..... from all the way at the other end of the house my muchbetterhalf elected to stay right where she was.

Fine, WHATEVER!! I'll fix it later when I calm down. Let's see how the wing dried up.....



Seriously? Never had this happen before. Careful sanding it back as I didn't want to repaint the wing, lots of praying.



Found an ancient sheet of black decal that took forever to release but it did the trick.



I glued together the Eduard spinner and vac-formed it. Together with the new prop, it should work fine.



Four days and I don't know how many hours I'm now ready to start the oil/grunge wash......again......

I feel your pain. But at times like these I always remember my best friend Tom, who ran a top-shelf auto restoration/collision shop. Whenever I'd get ranting about some especially difficult project he'd always remind me "If this stuff was easy, Dutch, everybody'd be doing it..."

Yep, been there often.
In fact I bought a great little USB torch (flashlight) off ebay for exactly this problem. One of those that can illuminate the whole garden, just a few quid. Now as soon as I drop something, or can't see what was on the bench a moment ago, I keep the chair still and shine all round before I move an inch.
I'll probably crush something now for being smug, but this has saved countless small pieces from the wheels or feet of this clumsy idiot!

Ahhh, the "joys" of model making! It's all part of the "process" as people like to say these days. But it can drive you mad, my wife is used to hearing a lot of swearing while I am undertaking my "restful" hobby....

Thanks all, I'm in a much better place now. Dutch, it was rude of me to post and not answer your question. I will not be RACING at Lime Rock but I will be there. Skip has taken what in years past was a wonderful vintage event and turned it into a money grab. Expensive entry, low track time in strangely mixed groups and a lousy chicken dinner.

The last big hurdle and I think my cunning plan worked. The Aurora/Glencoe wing is too high over the fuselage so I shortened the struts and now is much closer to the technical drawings out there.



I added control horns from wire on the rear.





I'm glad I went through the effort with the wings but I probably wouldn't do it again. Just get an Eduards. That said, I do enjoy the cutting and hacking.





I didn't go TOO crazy with the oil/grunge wash as the photo of this aircraft seems to look pretty clean.



Paint the propeller, last coat of a more satin finish, landing gear and rigging.

Looks great, Allan, wonderful color scheme and it's always good to see the old kits being built. I never saw the Aurora Pfalz back in the day, in fact I don't think I ever knew of its existence at the time.
