I will make two completely new models when I have finished my current project, (the S38 and launch platform on the turret of Africa/Hibernia), and replace the models in the display. I will add an update to the Bleriot and GB posts in due course.
Wow, that's dedication to the cause. Well done for doing this.

Lovely diorama! Lovely airplanes, but the Bleriot wings always looked like those "Penguins" to train rolling.

Like one of these:

There is a build log for this on this site:

I just found this thread.

You kept your promise (making the diorama) and nailed it.

Thanks for sharing the story and the period photographs Stephen, I really enjoyed it!

Cheers, Willem

Evening All

Following my post above in which I stated that I would be making new models of the Bleriot XXIII, I have completed them and added notes on the corrections in the scratch build thread on this site.

Rather than remove the photos in the first entry of this thread I am posting two pictures which I took when I replaced the incorrect models with new ones. The remainder of the display is unchanged:

The observant members of the forum will notice that I have not just corrected the wings on these models, but added the guards on the leading edges of the wings which I assume were to reduce the oil and exhaust gases in the pilot's faces. These were not clearly visible on the photographs that I was using when I started this part of the project, and only became clear on a photograph which was shown to me shortly before I handed the display to the museum. I was happy to take the opportunity correct this error when I made the new models and hope that I have made a better representation of these machines as a result.

Thanks for looking.

Stephen.

That is devotion to scale modelling! Well done for going to all the effort of making correct versions of the Bleriots, 99.999% of ordinary mortals would never have known.....

But it is in a museum, so definitely worth the effort.

Great project, painstakingly brought to life and fruition. I'm sure the museum are really chuffed with their display.
Lovely

Don't beat yourself up regarding the incorrect wings, Steve -

I cannot think of anybody else building these and you were working on information as was available to you at the time.

Great correction work!

Dave
