Several new 1/72 KP kits
« on: January 11, 2024, 07:33:22 AM »
2024 Christmas is saved: no less than 5 new types in the pipeline (6 if you count Nieuport 11 and 16 separately)!

Rather than spoil the surprise, see for yourselves:

Thanks Torbiorn, this is good news.
The Halberstadt CL.II and CL.IV may suggest KP will be using the defunct Ardpol resin molds, which will probably make good quality kits. It may also suggest more interesting subjects in the future.

Although I didn't see Halberstadts, this was still terrific fun.  The artwork is so inspirational.  I was taken back to the days when I was very (very!) young and just looked at the shelves of Revell kits in the shop and dreamed of building it all.

OK, I'm inspired - I think I will go and build something.

Hi all,

Indeed KP have been working on the N.16 for some time; they have been a little unsure about release dates for this kit, so we'll see when it comes out. The Cl.II will most certainly be using the Ardpol kit as a master, as they have done for other recent releases. I am unsure if the 504 will be utilising other kits as a master, or if there will be new masters for this kit.

In any case, further good news for us 1/72 dabblers :)

Cheers,

BC

Excellent news all round. Great to see some 'new' releases in 72nd.  ;D

Hopefully the Nieuport's will be a good starting point and they won't have just used Airfix's 504 as a starting point for the new one. I have an Ardpol Halberstadt on the shelf, but am not keen on resin for thin wings so might be tempted to pick one of these up as well - best start saving some pennies . . . . ;)

Great news. I indeed wonder about the origin of the planned Halberstadts... I built Cl.IV from Ardpol some years ago - a dream of a kit. To have a plastic version would be lovely.

The new DH.9a will be a USMC one.
As for the AZ Model AVRO 504 - there will probably be more versions than the 504K, which makes sense if they are based on the old HR Model molds as they had the A,B,C,D,E,J,N & R variants. Skis and floats will also be included

While I can get excited about any new 1/72nd WWI a/c kit, I do have my reservations since it is KP. The reviews of their Sopwith Triplane revealed, if memory serves, that it was only marginally better than the old Revell kit. The Sopwith Pup was pretty soft on detail, and a good modeling friend of mine whose opinion I greatly regard tells me their decals are the worst of the lot out there.

Am I wrong to have reservations about this news?

So we have Eduard releasing proven best sellers like the Fokker D.VII and Albatros D.III in their usual high standards, and KP with some of the lesser known types based on modified old kits. Both are welcome, and personally I prefer the rare types  :)
Interestingly, they have now re-released the Nieuport Triplane after the first batch has sold out.
Warren - KP didn't do a Pup, you probably mean the Swallow/Scooter.

I agree Warren, I would prefer a Clearprop DH9a over the KP one.

Mea culpa! It was HR Model that did the pup.

Yep! That's a great example of great tooling over mediocre. Like I said, glad to get a kit, BUT I sure wish they were coming from Clear Prop, Eduard, or a similar manufacturer.
