Thanks Richard!
This is not surprising. So AH fans will have to do with Roden's 4 versions...

According to the latest issue of Eduard Info, Vladimir Sulc said they're still on track to release this later on in the year.

Here's the extract mentioned -

There's a good chance we'll see the D.III some time this year, which would be great. We sorely need a modern quality Albatros D.III in this scale. Interesting that the moulds are being out-sourced; I wonder who to?

Interested to see what colour schemes they might go for.

Cheers,

Brad, I noted the outsourcing comment too, and it causes me concern. On one hand, this could be great!  On the other hand, maybe not so much. Hmmmmmm  :-\ :-\ :-\
We do need a modern tooling of this a/c desperately in this scale. I'm hoping, hoping, hoping that since Eduard said they were on a roll to reproduce in 1/72nd what they produce in 1/48th that we'll get a modern tool Sopwith Camel and SE5 which are desperately needed in 1/72nd.

There is a lovely Roden's Camel still available. Their SE.5a was also decent, though I guess it is not so easy to find it nowadays.

PrzemoL, I realize they're still available, but as to them being "lovely" or well-molded kits, well . . .

Having built two Camels from Roden I really find nothing to complain about them.  :) SE.5a is really more demanding, that is right.  ;)

My guess is that Special Hobby was outsourced to make the tools for the Albatros D.III.

They had previously worked together on the release of the 1/72 Bf-109E, which both companies boxed with their own logos. Also SH is working on a Pfalz 1/72 kit. They probably have the know-how to do it.

Thanks Richard, that's interesting. We'll see if Special Hobby has what it takes to mold a 1/72nd WWII fighter. Some of their recent WWII kits have been good (P-40) and not so good (Bf-109E). Let's hope the new Albatros D.III is NOT like their Bf-109E in terms of fit, dimensions, and snide customer service when modelers wrote in with problems.

Well, talking about Pfalz aircraft I would go for the DIII as the most popular concerning its sleek Design...
