DFW-T28 Floh. 1/72 ELF models
« on: November 28, 2023, 10:51:06 PM »
My next build will be the very unique DFW Floh. While this design looks quite comical when compared with the mainstream period aircraft, it had several features that were advanced for the day. The aerodynamic fuselage, limited flying wires, and internal control cables made for an incredibly fast aircraft. Its top speed was about 110 mph while most aircraft were lucky to break 90mph. It was hampered by poor downward visibility and high stall speed.

The ELF kit has detailed injection molding with little flash. A small photo etch set and nicely registered decals.

.

I added a little extra framework to the fuselage.
Most details will be obscured when closed in.

.

.

.

Ready to close it up and start the flying surfaces.

Thanks for looking in!
Tim

There's that old saying, "If it looks good, it'll fly good"... which perhaps explains why this one crashed after a few test flights :)

Still, looking forward to seeing you work your magic on this one, Tim!

Great subject, Tim.

I remember building it from the old Eduard 1/48 "Never Fighting Ladies" series (I think there were only two - Flea and A-H Helicopter) and I know there was a 1/32 vacform.
Also remember seeing a "What If" whole Jasta of Fleas in red & white Jasta Raben colours!

Such a lot of modelling interest in such a tiny footnote of history!

Certainly an odd subject - and therefore of interest to me!

You have made an excellent start with the interior but it is a shame that most of it will remain unseen.

Stephen.

This is the one I was waiting for Tim!

It's almost something out of a comic book, but I always liked it  :)

Cheers,
Willem

Great start on what must be a tiny kit!

I remember building it from the old Eduard 1/48 "Never Fighting Ladies" series (I think there were only two - Flea and A-H Helicopter)
I'd love to do one in 1/48 so thank you - although my partner's reaction to seeing a photo may mean if I ever get one it'll be at the very back of the display case!!

Planet Models once produced a 1/32nd scale resin kit.

Tim,

This my kind of kit.  Odd ball.  Excellent work.  Look forward to the completed model.

Wings 72 did a vacuform and that is in my collection.  12 Squared did one that is awful and still on the shelf.  I think it would look good in 1/48th and maybe my customer would want one in 1/32nd.  Anyone know where I can find a 1/32nd?  I am open to inflicting pain on myself.

Dennis

An eBay search has one 1/48 Eduard kit for $45 USD and two Planet Model 1/32 kits for sale.

Went of ebay and the 1/32 looks good.  Maybe my customer doesn't know he needs one...yet.  Huuuummmm

I really like your Elf build.  That could lure me into the buyers market if I can find one.

I used to do concept art and science-fiction illustration and have always had a soft spot for "what-if" models... a 1:32 Flea in lozenge and Jasta markings would look pretty cool...

Just sayin'. :)

Anyone know where I can find a 1/32nd?

Planet Models made one in 1/32, long OOP. Try eBay, or maybe someone here.
