Fokker D.VII (OAW) WNW Profile query
« on: February 06, 2013, 08:59:54 AM »
Hoping some of my comrades here and those more expert than I can possibly shed som thoughts on this issue.

WNW's profile D for the D.VII (OAW) shows an all blue tail plane. But the photo beneath indicates to my eye at least the elevator is possibly white? It looks far lighter than the tail surface in front of it and I know someone would say its bleached out by the light in the photo but.... theres what appears to be an oil/greas stain running back from the hinge.

Anyones twopenneth on this would be gratefully recieved.

Keith

Keith,
I can't believe that the colour of the elevator in the photo bottom pg.27 of the WNW Instructions is not white, regardless of the angle the light strikes it the "match" to the rudder and stab is, IMHO, absolute. I've looked through my modest references and have found nothing definitive; all Jasta 19 profiles and descriptions state an "all blue tailplane". The Osprey JG Nr. II Berthold Book (Greg Vanwyngarden) has this profile in it and it matches the WNW version. Also did a quick run through the Datafile Specials and no new info. Suggest an on-line query to Richard at WNW may be helpful; they were very quick and helpful with my queries regarding a similar question last year. At the very least they would provide their logic on the profile colours.
Cheers,
Lance
