'Aviattic' decals for Sopwith Strutter
« on: September 05, 2023, 09:59:26 PM »
Hi all,
Richard at 'Aviattic' will be releasing eight decal sets for the 'Roden' Sopwith Strutter.
Expected release in October.

Quote:
"Painstakingly tailored to the excellent Strutter kit from Roden by Dave Hooper and myself and to be offered with upgrade options of resin cast cowling, 3d printed instrument panel (designed by Mike Swinburne), the exquisite Taurus pulsometer and Gaspatch Vickers and Lewis guns, which are a huge improvement over the kit offerings."

Fantastic. Will be getting some, especially after looking at what Rick (RAGIII) has done with them on his build.

Stunning. I will definitely be getting some of these.

I was chatting to Dave and Richard about their work on these and apparently they have even put brush marks in the overpainted markings on these. Very clever what the two of them can do!

No French marking, what a snub!

On first glance I was a little disappointed that there weren't any French markings as well, but then I remembered that Roden hasn't released a French version yet. Unless I'm wrong (and the Dear knows—as Dr Maturin would say—it wouldn't be the first time) the French aircraft differed in several respects, especially in that it had the same style of internal bomb cell as the Breguet 14 (thus the hatches in the side of the fuselage). I had a time figuring that out, since there don't appear to be any photos (at least none I could find) showing the underside of the French machines.

So I'm assuming (hoping) that Richard is simply waiting for them to produce the proper kit before going to the considerable time & expense of making decals for it. Make sense?

A terrific idea, I just hope the fabric weave effect isn't as overdone as some Aviattic products I've seen in the past (with the caveat I've yet to encounter original fabric except for one of MvR's crosses).

This is a great way to tempt some builders, like myself, to buy a model that was otherwise not on my radar, due to the very sub-par decals available with the kit.  Aviattic's quality of their product is second to none.

WOW, great! Unfortunately no USAS decals. So I‘ll wait a little longer.

Will there be a set of roundels only?

If you are looking for British markings, Aims Decals has just released them in 1/32, 1/48 and 1/72 scale.

Hi Rolanddvi,
I don't think so.
The roundels are printed as part of the decals, which avoids any carrier film showing from added roundels,
