1/32 Spitfire Mk I Parts
« on: September 03, 2023, 11:54:01 AM »
I realize this is a bit O/T, but I know there are a lot of folks here that are building, or contemplating building the Kotaré Spit Mk I.

I now have a complete replacement radiator for that kit.

PSA: It's not drop in -- it's true 1/32 scale meaning something has to give. In order to adapt it to the Kotaré kit you can do one of two things:
1 -- Simply use the faces as appliqués over the existing radiator detail. This will require a little sanding of the faces sides to get them to fit, but not much.
2 -- Remove the existing radiator detail from the kit, and install the entire core. This will require modifying the inside of the fairing.

1/32 Spitfire Mk I Seat (Early All-Metal)

Unlike the 1/24 version, this one is printed as a single piece, so the lift mechanism is non-functional.

(the following are of low-res test prints):

Here it is compared to the Kotaré item:

Gorgeous work Bo, that seat is exquisite! I'm waiting to see what gems you come out with when they get around to the Mk.Vb.

Thanks Zac — AFAIK Vb (vs. Va)  is unannounced but mebbe I missed something! Anyway still enjoying the deep dive into the MK I — really surprisingly hard to nail down a lot of stuff that you would assume was recorded by the “victors” but alas in 1940 they had their hands mighty full.

Anyway … yes intend to make stuff for at least the Merlin powered marks — “plastic” seat is a no brainer, maybe some other things as well…

It seems like a safe bet that it is in the works...

Thanks Steve! -- Radiator tub/faring is nearing production status. So fiddly getting the flange to fit acceptably well, but I think it will be a nice upgrade having the separated flap, thinner walls, (very subtle) rivet detail, etc.

These are early low rez iterations with horrendous print line artifacts, and flange fit not yet dialed in --  but you can hopefully see where this is going:

After this many iterations (sorry, blurry photo, but you get the idea)...:

...I finally have a radiator tub for the Kōtare Mk I that fits satisifactorily.

more details here
