1/72 Dogfight Double. Fokker E.III vs. Airco DH-2

Small progress on the DH-2. I closed the fuselage and added the instrument panel. The sidewalls and nose section needed a little putty. Probably my error.










The Edward E.III has no details on the fuselage underside. In my opinion the new tool Airfix kit is much better.

I added Edward color photo etch belts and scratch pump


Some filler was needed

Scratched up some details and added photo etch lacing. I’m not sure if it’s the correct lacing though

Love it, Tim, I remember building the old Revell E.III in Turkish markings that came in one of the "3-in-1" boxings (along with a Camel and their little Morane N IIRC) back around 1969. You're making somewhat better a job of it than I did as a 12-year old, though :-D

Great work Tim, the stitching looks fantastic. I used 1/32 etch stitching once and found it such a pain to use. Yours looks perfect, in 1/72  that shows just how keen your eye and light your touch is.

Part 3.

I was able to find some much appreciated bench time this weekend. I added more detail and primed both Edward Eindecker’s (1/72 and 1/48).
The DH-2 had the top fuselage cover applied. I then added aftermarket Edward PE lacing.

I managed to break off all four cabane struts at some point. Some more than once!

All three fuselage and flying surfaces are primed and ready to be painted. Still deciding on the livery for the Eindecker’s.

Your DH2 is also looking great! The broken struts remind me of the WNW Camel which Many of us had the same issue!

Beautiful work, Tim, two of my favorite aeroplanes. I was digging through my stash yesterday and discovered an old 1970s vintage 1:72 Revell E.III, and inspired by your project almost grabbed it off the shelf. Almost... but I was saved by that little voice in the back of my mind repeating "you need to stay on task, Dutch, stay on task..."

Both subjects are coming on very well Tim. Two of the first WW1 models that I attempted to rig were these - only they were the Revell offerings in the mid 1970's. I still have them but when I look at themm and compare them with yours I am inclined to move them back into boxes in the roof!

Part 4

The engines of my three builds are completed.
From left to right:
1. Eduard 100 HP Gnome (replaced the push rods with copper wire)
2. Aeroclub 80HP Oberusel
3. Eduard 80 HP Oberusel 1/48 (kit part)

All the flying surfaces were first painted overall Tamiya IJN brown

Next I masked the framework of the Eindecker’s. I’ll save the DH.2 for later because it will have a different tone of Clear Doped Linen

Light overspray with Poly Scale CDL and removed the masking

.

Then lightly overspray the CDL color to blend in the framework.
