1/72 Dogfight Double. Fokker E.III vs. Airco DH-2
« on: July 20, 2023, 11:17:49 PM »
It’s been some time since my last posts. I did complete two builds for a friend which I will add to the completed site. My Hannover builds took a lot of my Mojo away. I’m looking to build something relatively easy, construction wise. These two Edward kits should fit well and not need a ton of scratch building.

Single sprue for the Eindecker

I used the engine for a previous project and put this Aeroclub LeRhone in the box. This is the wrong engine for this aircraft so I will source an Oberusel 9 cylinder.

The DH-2 has two sprues of parts with lots of extras. I’ll be using a lot of the photo etch.
This kit is one of my first purchases in my return to model building back in 2002. Really nice kit!

Here’s the interior work so far. Ready to close it up:

The Eindecker interior is still in progress. I’m also building a 1/48 E.III which I’m not documenting here.

I need to purchase a much finer brush to replicate the turned metal cowling on the outside. This interior will pass for now.

Thanks for looking in!

Tim

Looking forward to this one, Tim. The DH.2 has got to be one of my favorite Great War aeroplanes.

Excellent start Tim. Both interiors are looking great. I took the same approach on the Sopwith and Bristol as far as the Turned Metal in the interior. I must say I look forward to the rigging on both but Especially the DH2!

Nice start. I have the DH2 but not the Profipac, it looks like the extras might be worth it.

Yes Ian. There were a lot of extra PE Lewis drum containers and Lewis drums that I have found very useful on other projects. As well as the plastic ones in the kit.

Great start, Tim. I’d be keen to see that 1/48 E.III at some point too.
Cheers,

Two cracking kits Tim and a great start on both  ;)

Recently built the Eindekker and 'enjoyed' it so much I immediately bought another for later. The DH2 I've had on the shelf for a while, but have taken on a couple of other easier builds while I sort out the best way of making the strut/booms)

You certainly deserve a more straightforward project than the Hanovers. I love the DH.2 and am really looking forward to seeing this build unfold.

Good start Tim! I'm going to enjoy watching this.

The DH.2 and Fokker E.III were two of my favourite aircraft in my old modelling days, but there were no kits of them available locally.
I had to scratch build them using parts from other kits and Evergreen plastic, and relying on the sporadic information I could gather in the pre internet days.
These Eduard kits were the first I've acquired when returning to the hobby a few years ago, and the Choroszy F.E.8.

A very interesting pair to build simultaneously. Naturally I am more in favour of the DH 2 (cannot think why?!)

You have made an excellent start - I will be following with interest.

Pulling up a chair, Tim...and taking notes!  This will be brilliant.
