1/48 Revell (ex Eduard) Albatros DIII
« on: June 12, 2023, 03:02:19 AM »
Dear all,

Latest completed project, Revell's latest boxing of the old Eduard kit for the Albatros DIII.

Mostly built OOB with minor details added where the more obvious omissions were seen in the kit.  Some scratch made details to cockpit, engine (including a fuel and oil tank and water pipes from engine to wing mounted radiator), control surfaces, windscreen, and other minor bits done.  Others on this forum will no no doubt be able to take the kit detailing to another level.

Not perfect, but I am generally happy with how this one has turned out.

Painted by brush as ever in the marking of Jasta 37, early 1917.

Regards

Dave

That is a Beautiful Albatros Dave! Lovely colors and the rigging is excellent!

Only generally happy with how it turned out Dave? I'd be completely over the moon if I'd made it. The fuselage looks like it is real wood. I think it is a truly beautiful model , I've really enjoyed seeing the photos.

My favorite Albatros livery!
The wood fuse looks great.  Nice job on this.

If I'm not mistaken, the pilot of this aircraft did not claim a single kill.  He was eventually transferred to Macedonia as a squadron commander and was killed during the war.

Thanks for the info Kensar - a real shame - what was the name of the pilot?

The pilot's name was Kurt Grasshoff.  He was CO of Jasta 37 and took command of Jasta 38 in Macedonia before being killed there.  There's a couple of pictures of him and this plane in the Windsock Datafile 'Albatros Fighters' on page 21.
