Norman Franks RIP
« on: May 24, 2023, 06:14:08 PM »
I see the following statement from Grub Street Publishers:

"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Norman Franks. Norman was an acclaimed historian and author of numerous Grub Street titles. He died peacefully on Sunday, aged 83, and will be sorely missed by all here at GS Towers."

I'm sure many of us have bookshelves groaning under the weight of NF's authoritative and wide-ranging books.
Condolences to his family.
He will be missed.
Sandy

Surely, a great loss. His books occupy a huge part of my library.
May he rest in peace.

Our paths crossed briefly in the 1980’s at Nationwide Building Society!
Years later I became aware of his other career and interests……..it is fair to say that I have enjoyed these more.
RIP Norman Franks.

I also have dozens of his books. He always wrote great foundation work with solid information to base further research on. His Osprey Aces contributions are invaluable.

I can only echo the sentiments of the previous posts - a truly sad loss for aviation history, but a life well lived. And what a legacy.

Norman Franks wrote books that inspired my interest in WW1 aviation and particularly the pilots. The sheer volume of information he contributed may be unmatched. What a loss. Vale.

No way!
I was thinking what a colossal contribution he made to aviation history- how could anyone come close. Vale.
