1/72 Hansa Brandenburg C.I by MAC
« on: May 18, 2023, 09:22:00 AM »
Lovers of 1/72 scale are definitely being spoiled by Czech manufacturers lately...
KP are leading, and now MAC has joined with two new kits of the Hansa Brandenburg C.I, to be released in July.

Oh no.  Something to force another vacuform into obsolescence.  And I had been telling myself that the two Wings 72 kits were the best non-Joe Chubbuck vacuforms available.  Rats.

I have mixed feelings too. It took me time and efforts to find two HR Model resin kits of the H.B. C.I and they were not cheap either...

Really looking forward to this one.  I believe over 1000 of this aircraft were produced by various manufacturers.

Wait! What? They still are the best vacuforms available for that a/c. ;)

Don't be so quick to ditch your vacs guys. I don't know how they are now, but I remember MAC a/c kits having awfully thick trailing edges. Your madness may vary, but I screwed up my MAC SPAD VII C.1 sanding those edges down. (I got them razor thin, then dropped a wing on the floor, landed on the trailing edge, and shattered. :(  )  You might substitute the vac wings for the kit wings?  Just a thought.

I like the cut of your jib Warren. I have an old Falcon 1/32 vac Fokker DVIII that I may still use the wing on the Mikromir injection kit - less weight on the struts etc.

Steve,
I remember years, and years ago when MAC released the Fokker D.VII, Pfalz D.III/IIIa, and SPAD VII C.1 kits it seemed they could get good trailing edges and bad rib detail, or good rib detail and trailing edges that looked like 2x4's, but not both. The trailing edges on my SPAD were far too thick. Of course I haven't seen this kit, but if they're up to old habits, I just thought the vac wings, if one already had the vac in hand, would be a potential use rather than just trying to sell it.

You are right Warren, MAC's rather good kits usually have wings with thick trailing edges. I haven't seen their Fokker D.VII but it's true with their Bristol Scout, Phonix D.I-III and SPAD. The Hansa Brandenburg C.I will be their first new kit in years so there's hope they make it right this time.

Ooh that looks really nice. I may have to buy one or two.  The Wings vac kit is very difficult to build. Probably the most difficult vac kit I’ve built to date.

Nevertheless you've made an excellent job with it Tim.
Looking forward to your injection molded model/s of the C.I!
