RFC Wingnuts
« on: February 25, 2023, 04:12:26 AM »
Hi all,

I’ve suddenly realised how much I miss building a Wingnuts kit! Hannants have all but sold out of the recent delivery. All that’s left is the Salmson - a kit I would like to buy, and at £109, not bad value, but I really wanted an RFC/RAF kit. I don’t suppose anyone has one spare they wouldn’t mind selling? Probably a big ask!

Failing that, I could wait for the CSM Scout? I imagine that will be a nice kit.

I may just get the Salmson anyway, but if anyone has something up their sleeve, I’d be very grateful.. I really wanted an AMC DH9 but just missed out.

I’m planning on a series of biplanes, one in each scale, so will be back on here in the works in progress for help and tips. I’m thinking about writing up a book on biplanes, probably nothing will come from it, but I’d at least like a stab as I’m now retired and have the time!

Many thanks for looking…

Many thanks Giuseppe,

I did look, and as you say they have the AMC and a post war Brisfit - lovely!

…but, I have just bought.. a duellist Harry Tate and Halberstadt.

I always wanted an RE8 and thought my chance had gone..

Thanks for the pm’s too, much appreciated.

Oh golly,

I’m away on holiday and I think the sun’s addled my brain, I’ve just bought the LVG/ Camel Duellist boxing too!  ::)

I wish I’d had this epiphany moment when Hannants had them all at sensible prices…

But… I’ve always wanted the LVG in particular so am really exciting be getting that and the RE8.

Quick question, are there any cookie cut wood decals for the LVG fuselage? Or anyone have a template to cut decals?

Thanks,

Guy

I made my partly with woodgrain decals making templates with Tamiya masking paper, just stick to the part, take the contour with a pencil or a fiber pen, apply on top of the decal and cut. It's less time consuming then expected.

Ah yes, many thanks Giuseppe, I did do that with an Albatros and it did work..

I’m just being lazy!  :D

I have seen an HGW mail head set though which could be good…

And Bristol Fighter and AEG (Late)..

I know it seems mad, but I realise they are only going to be harder to get, so I don’t think I’ll regret it…  although my bank balance is!

By the way, speaking of HGW, I used their nails decals set on the LVG and that was a really nice touch. Being tailored precisely on the model, these can also work as templates for woodgrain decals.

Ah that’s a thought Giuseppe, thanks,

I have just bought that set - I think I’ve used a similar set before on an Albatros. It’s a shame really, but of all those Wingnut kits I’ve spent goodness how much time on, I’ve nothing left. Hopefully, I’ll keep these ones now as I have a proper display cabinet.

On the kits I’ve bought, any essential extras anyone would recommend?

I have ordered a few Barracuda wicker seats, but thinking back, these had quite a lot of flash, I’ve just noticed Gaspatch do them too, I’m sure they’re better, any thoughts?

Thanks
