Douglas Campbell N28........
« on: January 25, 2023, 11:37:31 AM »
I recently found this in my stash and have started reading. I read it about 45 years ago in my yoot..

So much of this I've forgotten and is thrilling to read all over again.

I have this in the stash...

I want to do Campbells Nieuport as he was the first "American Ace".

My question is, and I think I've answered it already in my own mind, is what N number is on the tail. Personally, I don't think there is any as the whole tail was overpainted with the american white/blue/red stripes.

Of course I would have done Rickenbacker's a/c but I have an Eduard duel combo SPAD XIII kit for his.
I will give this old Glencoe kit all the attention I've given these other old kits of the past.

Thanks,
Allan Buttrick

The rudder had N 6164 on it.  Colors on the rudder were red at the rear, white in the middle, and blue on the front.  At the time of his first victory, the airplane had the "hat in the ring" insignia and the orange peels on the cowl.  The rest of the cowl was still in greens/brown.  Later on, the "10" was added along with the green/brown parts of the cowl being painted black.

Thanks Big Sky,
Your version for the rudder differs from some photographs.
Are we sure Campbell's was different?

Thanks,
