Boelcke's D-II From EcardModels in 1/33rd Scale: FINISHED!
« on: January 07, 2023, 03:54:50 PM »
Evening, All!

Here it is with some slight airbrushing in places to give a bit more depth to the rather monochromatic, cartoon feel of the original printed color.  I'm really glad to have a D-II in my display case.  I have a Roden 1/32nd D-I that was modified to the prototype, this D-II, an Austro-Hungarian D-III and a lovely D-Va.  Now I think I need an operational D-I!  Modifying this guy would not be hard at all.  And I can print a whole Jasta!

Thanks for looking and the encouragement along the way,
Dan

Blimey.  It really took me a while to work out that this is a card model.  Well done!

I am happy that I was able to catch up with this one Dan. As always a remarkable result that I would be proud to put in My case!

Thank you William, Rick, Bob, Zac and Tim!

I do like how it turned out and still like the coloring on it.  It does look nice on the shelf too.

Much appreciate the look and comments.  Have a great week...Dan

This is fantastic, in these days of horrendously expensive resin and 3d printed models it is so good to see such a realistic model from paper and card!!!!

That is just insane. More so knowing it's paper.
Amazing.....
Thanks,

I just do not know how you can turn paper and card into something that is so realistic and easily confused with more substantial material.

You really are tha master of this art Dan: and this latest model is a further demonstration of that fact.

Stephen.

Thanks Richie, Allan and Stephen...

These paper models really combine all the things I like from balsa flying models, real airplane construction and lovely plastic kits into one package.  More to come!

Lovely model of this beautiful plane!

I was especially impressed by the underside view, this is most critical with all the central joints.

Both outlines look very smooth and symetrical, it is so easy to have a banana shape.

In your Avro engine video I got excited by your cylinder rolling tool, is it home made or does

someone sell it? If it's yours how did you make the slot in the metal?

Hi Joachim...

That is a store-bought tool for paper quilling.  Not expensive but really useful.  I'd love to figure out how to make a much larger (longer?) one to roll things like landing gear struts, shafts etc.  Alas...I am no engineer!  I'm always on the lookout, though.

Thanks for much for the comments and questions.

Dan
