Mark IV Male 1/144 Brengun

With the Female finished, it is time to start working on the next piece - Male variant. Specifically Hyacinth from Battle of Cambrai in November 1917:



The kit is super simple and very nicely detailed, the only adjustment to the resin parts has been predrilling holes for cannons and MGs:







And I can't wait to start cleaning the PE parts.

I would like to create a vignette corresponding with the photo, but I am not sure if this will be feasible - the tracks are partly missing on the lower side, where I had to cut the parts off. But perhaps I will be able to make it invisible using mud.

Yesterday I started gluing the PE parts in place, I was quite scared of it but eventually it went rather smoothly:

Hello everybody,

I am back!

Many thans for your nice comment, long time no see.

After a long break from scale modelling I decided to return my home town Jihlava and one of the first priorities was bringing my workbench back in order. This has been finally finished now and this the current status:




Even though you can see the WIP Sopwith Camel in the picture, I decided to start by continuing on the Mark IV in order to revive my modelling skills - Mark IV is more forgiving in case of mishaps than the Camel ready for assembly.

She is now assembled except for gun barrels which I will glue in place just before painting. All metal parts got a coat of Mr. Metal Primer and next up is Mr. Resin Primer.

Yesterday she got a coat of Mr. Surface Primer followed by a coat of Drooling Bulldog Zinc White.

This what she looks like after preshading, next up will be greyish-green and decals.

Lovely work, amazing in such a small scale.

FWIW I would not recommend you paint it greyish green. British tanks in WWI were supposed to be painted in a "neutral brown". There is a large scale metal model in the tank museum at Bovington that was made by apprentices just after the war and the museum thinks it was painted in the actual paint used on these tanks. It is distinctly khaki brown in its shade. I have a photo somewhere, but sadly I can't find it at the moment. If I do, I will post it.

That is a very correct remark, Nigel, according to majority of sources the greyish green appeared rather on later variants. Many thanks for the heads up, mate!

I decided to take the advice and used a mixture of Droolling Bulldog Umbraun lightened with Cream yellow and a very tiny addition of greyish green to give it a bit of khaki shade.









Currently the brown is rather light, but I expect it to get darker once the consequent techniques like wash and oil paints have been applied.

Next up are decals and wash.

The decals are in place, afterwards I added wash and a bit of drybrush, now I will leave her to cure. I also put the first layer of oil paint on the unditching beam.

I'm sorry, Drooling Bulldog??? Is that a company, or actually part of the name of the color?

And this is an absolutely beautiful model... I'm in awe of your abilities, and those of the other 1:144 magicians that seem to be making their presence felt here on the Forum.
