Tiger Moth Club of NZ fly-in - Taumarunui 2022
« on: October 20, 2022, 07:32:00 AM »
Hi all,
Over the weekend the club held its annual fly-in at their spiritual home of Taumarunui, where it was formed in 1969. Old hands reckon it was one of the best ever with a remarkable number and range of aircraft (despite the name, all types are welcome). Here are a few pictures to hopefully convey what an awesome day Saturday was.

Excellent photos! What is the orange and white high wing monoplane with the big tires? I would love to have a kit of the Cessna 195.

ZK-FXC is a Carbon Cub, one of many modern replicas/"in the style of" Piper Super Cub clones. Very popular with the STOL and bushflying crowds.

You and me both! We have two examples in New Zealand and this was my first time seeing one, likewise the 120. What a machine!

Nice Stearman!
The blue-and-yellow one is the first ever imported into NZ as a warbird back in the 1980s, and the red-and-cream example is less than a year out of restoration - both are utterly gorgeous but ZK-RJS is such a stunning machine! The restorer/owner works for restoration shop Avspecs (Mosquitos, Spitfires, P-40 Tomahawk and so on) and the craftsmanship is superb.

My pleasure Lance! My friend Nick and I went on a five-day aviation tour of the North Island culminating in this event and you can find all my pics here: https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjAaT7J
