Pfalz D.XII - 1/72nd scale Toko kit
« on: September 07, 2022, 10:38:56 PM »
1/72nd scale Pfalz D.XII done for Jasta 32b. It's been a long time since I've built a Toko kit. It fought me all the way, every step, every process from basic construction, assembly, and paint.  I can definitely do better.  It's not going to any contests but rather straight to the gaming piece box, hence the pilot and propblur already installed. I custom mixed colors and used Americal/Gryphon lozenge. It was rigged with lycra thread painted with very thin Vallejo Model Color Natural Steel.

Wonderful build Stuart.  I really like the paintwork on the fuselage. Rigging is very nice as well.  I want to build one soon. Peddinghaus  decals has released some new versions for this aircraft.

Thanks for sharing your work.

An aircraft I always liked the look of Stuart
(I've got one of the Toko kits in the stash although it sounds like it'll take a bit of effort to get looking right so I'll have a go at it later)  ;)

Paul,

All the struts are very brittle and the cabene 'W' struts don't fit at all.

I've been following a tank builder soldering photo etch together.  I may have a go at soldering brass rod for all the struts next time.

I will go back to base coating blue and pink on the wings top and bottom respectively.  I laid the decals down on primer and had some touch ups.

Lessons I learned for the next one.

Beautiful model of one of the lesser types. I would be proud to have that on my shelf.

I do love a Pfalz! Another great job Tim, you must have quite the mini museum at home.

Zac,

If I were Tim, I may take that as an insult.  ;)

Tim is a far better modeler than myself.

Certainly wouldn’t be an insult!  A model of this quality would fit right in on any of our shelves!

It may have fought you during the build, Gary - but what a great job you have done.

I also like the like of this machine.

Nice work, Stuart! That is a rare sight to see that particular model completed. I bet that there are many that are half built and then abandoned, given the difficulties. I'm glad that you persevered and completed it.

Thank you all for your kind words.  Glenn, a friend of mine built the Classic Plane vacuform many years ago.  I think he had less difficulty with it.  If I build another one, I am fabricating the cabene struts and stealing the interplane struts out of a couple of Revell Fokker D.VIIs.
