Hasegawa 1/48 Macchi C.202 Fanali
« on: September 04, 2022, 01:21:02 AM »
I haven't been posting much in the forums here due to embarking on an Italian adventure with this Macchi C.202.  This one was flown by Duilio Fanali who was a veteran of the Spanish Civil war and flew in Libya before finding himself on Sicily flying bomber escort missions to Malta.  He flew this plane from October 1942 until April 1943 when his unit upgraded to the C.205.  He is credited with 4 victories and, I believe, 32 assists.  He was the commander of his unit on Sicily.  He survived the war and served in the Italian air force until the 1970s.

The kit is very nicely done with few parts, but still builds into good looking model.  I have enhanced a few details as I can't build anything OOB.  I used aftermarket resin wheels and an Eduard wheel well kit as there is a lot of visible detail up there like the FW190 has.  The Stormo decals I used are excellent.

If you are interested in doing a WW2 Italian subject, check out the Stormo Magazine  online for reference info - very good

I'll be continuing my Italian adventure with a Fiat CR.42, which, while not WW1, does have 2 wings.

Lovely job on the Macchi  Kensar.
I am not familiar with this plane but it reminds me of the ME 109
Alan.
I heard that it all started when a bloke called Archie Duke shot an ostrich 'cause he was hungry!

Thanks, Alan.  They did share the same engine, the DB601.

Very nice work! I've got the MC.205 on my wishlist so it's inspiring to see what can be done with the kit.

Love your build and scheme choice. I have heard the fuselage to wing joint is very tight causing a bit of anhedral. Looks like yours worked very well!

I had heard of similar issues with the wing, so I glued the upper wing halves to the fuselage before gluing the lower wing half to the uppers.  Problems avoided!

Great model, Kensar. Did you use the Eduard smoke rings decals?

The smoke rings were painted on with a brush - very easy to do.

Very well done too, and the wheel well detail set really gives the appropriate look. Thank you for sharing.

Superb model. The later Macchi series were aesthetically very pleasing designs - and by all accounts very good fighters. Well up to your usual standard.

Good to read that your next project will be of a real aeroplane, even if it is not WW1.

Stephen.

Hi Ken - just saw this. Excellent build. I've always admired those camo schemes and you nailed it.
Cheers,
Gary
