New old spark plugs: r1212e
« on: August 21, 2022, 11:33:00 PM »
Finally, I have it! Spark plug, which can be precisely painted.
Some Taurus products, like spark plugs, were relatively small and detailed simultaneously. However, during painting, all this accuracy can be lost (see: spark plugs in my latest engine). In the case of spark plugs, the perfect painting was impossible. For now. I’ve just finished the newly tooled r1212e spark plug (new version of 3218), which can be easily and accurately painted with no loss in accuracy. It consists of three parts, which can be painted separately and then assembled. What is more, assembly is easy, despite the element being small. Just see the images. According to your earlier advice, I prepared this spark plug in two versions: first for easy painting, and second, assembled if you want to paint it in a single color. The price will be the same as earlier spark plug sets, no matter the version. It is not a final product, just some prototype quickly assembled for the test. I plan to update all my spark plug sets. Taurus has evolved and will be evolving to perfection.

These spark plugs will replace the 3218 set. It will be available in two options: 3218A - easy to paint (each spark plug will be assembled with three parts), and ready-assembled 3218B.

@taurusmodels
Excellent idea Lukasz.

Almost perfect.
Now only the matching decals on the porcelain bodies of the spark plugs for the in-line engine are missing  :P

BtW:
The spark plug in my hand is (most probably) from a Mercedes engine which served in 1918 in a Fok. D.VII which was in service.

What a pity, Bertl, that I haven't known you have an original spark plug...

I reproduced this exemplar:

It seems, there were a few options for these spark plugs. All the best, Lukasz

OK, I figured out this :)

You have got v1212c, while I made r1212e.

Excellent work Lukasz, I know this will be a good seller for you.

And now I'm waiting to see you build the rest of the D.VII so you can install it  ;) I'm very envious - to own a piece of an actual Great War machine is an amazing privilege.

New spark plugs (r1212e type, used in most of the german engines of WWI) are ready. Within a few days, they will substitute 3218. The new set is much more detailed and, what is more, is easy to paint! The set will be available in two options: easy to paint, consisting of three parts (3218A) and compact (3218B). I tested a new type of casting block for these sets, and it seems it works. There is easier access to elements, and spark plugs can be easily separated.
It is important that the easy-to-paint set is really easy to assemble. To do this, you can just crack the casting block, crack down a protective plate (it is pre-cut), and paint all the parts separately. Next, painted pieces can be snapped from the casting blocks (by finger). Then, assembling is just trivial. See the pictures 😊
The new sets will be available at the end of this week.

Again just another comment to say how great these plugs are. Any possibility of a similar set for the 1/24th scale Fokker DrI (or even a super detailed full engine for that kit I would be on-board :) )
